Lets count ourselves lucky that we have Bob Gainey running our team.
I think the reason for this was the fact that the desperate Canucks were going to sign Bernier to an offer sheet that the Sabres were not going to match. As a result, Buffalo got themselves the picks they would have gotten as compensation.

Too bad you beat me in creating this post.

I would have entitled it: Rivet to shovel snow in Buffalo!

Average snowfall in Montreal is 84 inches..

Average snowfall in Buffalo is 93 inches.

Enjoy your past comment fully Craig!

Right about now, Rivet is in a corner of his residence, in the fetal position sobbing like a 17 year old girl who got dumped on prom night.

Wow, I don't want to sound like a total BG homer but this just goes to show that Bob really knows how to negotiate a good trade.

He got a 1st rounder and a very serviceable defenseman in Gorges for 15 games from a soon to be UFA Rivet in 2007.
Now Wilson in San Jose trades a signed Rivet to a defense-starved Buffalo for the return of two 2nd round picks.

Quite a huge difference in values being exchanged there IMO!

Man, all these seconds going around as soon as I changed my user name. I'm starting to have difficulty of understanding things. Some quick rundowns on recent trades:

Craig Rivet and a 5th round pick in 2008
To Montreal Canadiens : Josh Gorges and 1st round pick in 2007 (Max Pacioretty)

To Washington: Cristobal Huet
To Montreal: 2009 2nd Round Pick (traded to Calgary w/'08 1st for Tanguay)

To Chicago Blackhawks : Sergei Samsonov
To Montreal Canadiens : Jassen Cullimore and Tony Salmelainen (both bought out)

Loving everything that Gainey is doing these days.

Was not expecting that. I guess they needed to make room and he ended up with the short end of the stick.

They signed Blake for 5M. Only problem is Blake has a NTC and accepted to lift it because he can surf in San Jose, so hes gonna suck like he did last year and the year before. And they let Rissmiller go but keep Roenick.

We traded our second round pick next year not the one we received from washington, the question was asked to gainey on draft day on RDS

Right on, thanks for the clarification. At least we got to keep what will most likely be the better pick.

He loved this team? How many positives did you hear from him about that team and that city? You know, in a world where everything has been negative about that team and that city so nobody would sign here, I would have expected a guy like him who was here for how many years to promote that city.....not putting more fuel on the fire.....

Anyway, it's all in good fun.....I'm probably certain he won't mind...

Rivet was a good guy but he was as much a part of the attitude problem as other players who were at a time or another members of cliques within the team. He deserves some of the animosity he's receiving right now. And stop with the snow shovel comments. Just like when he was in Montréal, Rivet will put his luxury vehicule in his garage and have somebody to open his driveway when it snows. Nothing changes!
