OTR - Steve Dankoff?

Anyone catch the show today?? this guy, a Leafs writer, took like 5 shots at Edmonton. Saying how Hossa wants to win a cup, and he couldn't do that in Edmonton, not this year or in the next nine years. I'm sorry, but I'd love to spit in this guy's face, he's a *****, an arrogant Toronto *****.

First of all, never heard of him, and I follow hockey and listen to more hockey shows (TV and radio) then most people on this planet! But let's relax. Look, 3 times in 7 years. That represents how many times we've made the playoffs over Mac T's reign. This isn't to rip on Mac T, but the fact is we haven't won a lot lately. While we're making all the right strides to get to the level of the Detroit's, Dallas, Jersey's, Colorado's, and San Jose's we're not there yet. The fact is that Hossa does have a MUCH better shot at winning the Cup next year in Detroit, and very well could have a better shot with that 1 year in Detroit then in 5 or 6 playing here. Right now we're not close man. While I hear you that it's basically some Toronto FAN (no I did not mistype that) spouting off and bitter towards teams that they were above the past 10 years or so, he is saying what most of the hockey world thinks of our franchise right now. We know as Oiler fans that's on the verge of changing....but it hasn't yet.

Give the guy a break. He's just overly excited now that the Leafs have signed Finger.

He not only said that, but he also said that he'd rather wear a parka all year round and live in detroit than edmonton,

I do think we're being oversensitive - landsberg and the other dude defended Edmonton saying they'd rather live here and also that Dankoff was being harsh on the organization. Assuming landsberg is also from Toronto, I don't see why Dankoff should be hated on and judged as a typical Torontonian ass.

At some point we have to stop caring what people in Toronto think, seriously they do not matter.

Just another Joe Schmo trying so hard to be a "sports media personality'', and failing miserably.

No biggie.

You can watch it online if you want.

It doesn't really bother me because my general feel from the panel was that this guy was pretty ill informed about Edmonton and tried to jump on the Edmonton sucks bandwagon. But Landsberg and a couple other guys called him out on it and made him look like a chump saying that Edmonton has great fans and it's a good place to live (Glen Healy eat your heart out). The guy tried to save face at the end by making a joke "if you could put Edmonton's fans in Anaheim..." but it looked pretty pathetic. The pure ridiculousness of a guy from Toronto telling hockey players in Edmonton to put a parka on wasn't lost on anyone else either... one other panelist said that Hossa on the Oilers for 9 years with Gagner, Gilbert, etc would have a good shot at the Stanley Cup.

Long story short, the guy was acting like a tool and he got called on it. It was nice to see former players standing up for the city. If there was ever an interview to watch that proves that the "Edmonton sucks" crusade is just the media being bored, this is it.

hey, I know the guy is a misinformed nobody trying to be trendy, and it shouldn't bother me, but for some reason, it did. I know Hossa has a better shot at a cup this year in Detroit, but if you add Hossa to this team, I think we'd a top 4 team in the conference for sure. From there, anything can happen.

You guys are way to harsh on the guy. Didn't Landsberg say he was the weekend lunch guy? Who the hell listens to talk radio on the weekend, especially at lunch?

He just wants some attention. If I had that time I would be saying all kinds of stuff to get some P.R.

I did enjoy how the rest of the panel basically jumped on him for being an idiot.

Sounds like it. It seems like it doesn't take much to be a "sports media personality" these days.

A hip-hop musician you haven't heard of, Jimmy Bagadonitz from the '78 Leafs, and the guy who drives the Zamboni at Marlies games.

Sounds like the same way MuchMusic draws their studio audience in.

TSN knows it will get us watching.

Notice that they are the only major media source that continues to give Burke and his pissing and moaning any exposure.

TSN is quickly becoming the TMZ of the sports world. They get a lead and then exploit every last ounce of it while creating their own "news". It gets ratings because it peaks interest.

I really think it's time to start a western based network. FTSN.

**** Toronto Sports Network.

Some of you guys are so sensitive to this issue. What do I care what some media guy in Toronto thinks of Edmonton?
Everytime we respond to these, it just feeds these reporters to say/print it more often. They're just looking for a reaction and you're giving them one.
Just let it go.

A western based sports network would inevitably be based in Vancouver (T.O. West) and we'd take shots from both sides.

On another note, I hope Gillis stays stuck in neutral and fails to make the Canucks any more competitive, based on his squeaky clean agent career. Once again TSN at work - they made a quick comment during a panel discussion about Gillis and some bridges he likely burned as an agent.

TSN - making something out of nothing.

Lol you mean like Peter Griffin on James Woods.

Anyways Steve Dankoff has been on OTR before, and is usually more obnoxious than most panel people. If anything he just wants attention, and we're giving it to him.

Steve Dankoff and his illustrious career.

What else can we expect from a guy that hosts a radio segment called "Leafs Lunch".

....the way their team plays, its a wonder if their organization even serves lunch.
