What I like the most is that we finally have a group of regular NHLers.

Players that played on a consistent basis:

05/06: Streit, Gerber, Aebischer
06/07: Streit, Gerber, Aebischer
07/08: Streit, Gerber
08/09: Streit, Sbisa, Hiller
09/10: Streit, Hiller
10/11: Hiller, Sbisa, Weber
11/12: Weber, Hiller, Streit, Sbisa, [Niederreiter], [Josi]

Niederreiter will play in the NHL if he does well in the next 2-3 weeks. Josi has a huge fight in front of him, but I'm very positive about him. I think both will play in the NHL this season.
I don't think Diaz is an NHL type of player, but I'd like it if he proves me wrong. Habs D core is pretty much unreachable, though.
It's almost impossible for Bartschi to break into a stacked top9 of Calgary too, but if he makes it, he'll impress and stay for the whole season I assume..
I think we'll see 6 Swiss NHLers this season, playing for 4 different teams. Amazing! I'm so eager to see some NHL hockey again, I think I'll even catch some pre-season games

The development is positive, but why aren't we on the main list of the hfboards? Even Germany is there, c'mon!

Honestly, i think Niederreiter will make the team. Bärtschi is doing good, but he still needs at least 1-2 seasons in junior hockey. Josi could earn a spot if 2-3 d-mans of the Preds get injured, otherwise i see no chance for him to begin the season in Nashville. Weber will be #6-7 in MTL, while Diaz and i hope Alain Berger too will play in Hamilton. We'll see...

Josi is better then Weber in my mind. It's just because the Preds defense is deeper and better he's not sure to be a part of the team. Nevertheless, i wonder if Josi has more chances to do the team finally....

apparently Josi is hurt ! not in the lineup of the today's game

he has praises and praises about his skills !! (on hfboards) and then ... hurt. Last year it was the same thing. yet it seems that it isn't as serious as last year when he broke his hand.

No doubt, but just compare Montreal's D with Nashville's D.

Josi would have gotten an opportunity last season had Nashville been a bit less lucky with injuries. Montreal on the other hand losts its top two for most of the year and had several other guys missing chunks of the season. Those things are unpredictable, even if one defense looks deeper than the other.

Like Stv said, it was obvious the last season, in part because the Habs injuries in the defense squad. But i think even if the two teams were complete, i assume the Preds defense is better. We ll see that season if it's different.

Tonight we'll probably see 3 Swiss players in one game. Diaz, Weber and Berger will probably play for the Habs vs. the Stars.

Weber was apparently one of the best players on the ice, while Diaz had some good plays. Some of the Habs fans see him make the NHL in near future, while other would let him play at least one season in the AHL. But he looked good as per Habs board.
Berger had not much ice time.

According the Flames fans Bärtschi looked very good, he played with Backlund (!) and Hagman.

From what I read and seen in the highlites Bärtschi had a great game and is developing a real good chemistry with Backlund. Hope he can play a few NHL-games before they send him back to Portland.

Is there any news about Josi?

i watched the game only for this "première" !!

Berger ... i saw little from him ... Should go to AHL. (le grand Bèèèrguèère)
Diaz ... Smart guy with a very good vision !! he shied away of contacts and still has to adjust to the rink size. but made very few mistakes and brilliant passes as well as nice snipes. maybe some AHL untill callup opportunity
Weber ... was very solid ... NHL (le jêune Wèèèèbèèèère)

to tell you the thruth i felt that, apart of Kostitsyn ... Diaz and Weber could have been the best players out there. but I admit that i may have a bias.

+++

Aebischer also had a decent game. Hopefully he will maintain this. He may have a good style that fits the NHL. could he be a NHL backup ?? ...

+++

I didn't see Baertschi ... regretfully

+++

and ... yes I almost didn't sleep !

No news yet, but his injury could be day to day. The Preds staff told he has one week to recover, if he have not, he'll beginn in the AHL.

Mark Streit is the new captain of the New York Islanders! Only 14th in history. Of course first Swiss ever to captain an NHL team. Congrats Mark, well deserved!

Bad news for Weber and Diaz, the Habs signed free agent Chris Campoli.

Given the timing, it could be that Markov's injury is worse than expected.

It seems as Diaz cracked the Habs-Lineout for the first day, he'll probably play with Spacek and Yemelin/Weber have to sit (Weber maybe in the 4th line).

Nino is on IR, hopefully he's back very soon so he can show that he deservs a place in the team.

We're starting in the new season with 6 Swiss players on NHL-rosters. 5 of them will play in the first game, only Nino is on IR.

As I said Diaz together with Spacek, Weber on the 4th line. Sbisa will also start with Top-4 minutes, as Lydman is still injured.

To this we can add ... Nino in the comming weeks and josi in a couple of months. Evenutally Weber could be questionable (if he changes team i wonder wether he may have more playing minutes or less playing minutes than with the Habs) as well as Nino (unproven so far).

Aebischer could also be a Backup ... maybe with some games ... he was unlucky enough ... time for change !

So this year, at best, we may end up with 8 players. probably 7.

So, would do you think after he gets back from IR will Nino stay with Islanders after 9 games or he will be send back to WHL ?

i believe that they plan keeping him. But that will actually be decided (or more correctly confirmed) during the 9 games i think.

Yet i am just saying that he is not proven ... meanning that more is possible than for a veteran where you know that he has many fights under the belt.

We started with some Swiss goaltenders in the NHL, now we have already four D-men, now the last step would be 4-5 forwards. (Niederreiter, Bärtschi, Brunner? Who else could make it?)

Just look at the NA juniors, all of them are doing great so far on a PPG pace. Andrighetto, Richard, Bertaggia, Arnold, Martschini. Only thing they lack brutally is size, combined maybe 1-2 metres too short
The opposite is Berger, who is a monster, but needs to work hard on his skating skills...
