So, are we better or worse?

Out:
JJ
Shanny
Straka
Avery
Toots
Malik
Mara
Backman

In:
Zherdev
Naslund
Fritsche
Voros
Rissmiller
Jamtin
Redden
Kalinin

Are we a better team than we were at the end of the season, or a worse team?

Better, we no longer focus around one player who didn't put up 65 goals, muchless 30.

On paper we're better. Who knows if it'll gel.

Who knows? Team chemistry can be a *****... as the Rangers know all too well.

I feel like we're a little better. Talent-wise, we were better last season, but obviously the team didn't fully gel. Hopefully this group will put it together and not wait until the 3/4 mark of the season to start scoring.

Agreed that not being reliant on one player makes us better.

alkurtz, make this a poll!

I truly feel we are better, but I will miss guys like Jagr, Avery and maybe Shanny, tough character guys to replace who really became the heart of this team.

I think we're better. We have a presence for the blueline on the powerplay now with Redden, we resigned rozy, and Kalinin is slightly better than Malik or Backman. I think our forwards are about the same as they were last year.

We all tend to forget that Shanny and Straka were injured and ineffective, that Jagr was streaky, and that Avery was out for half the year, and this team still made the playoffs and did alright. I think we added more solid weapons for this year, and the future. While I think I'll miss Avery the most, I think Voros could be a solid replacement.

Avery didn't come in with much of an offensive pedigree, but he flourished with us. Why can't the same happen with Fritsche/Voros? I agree with everything you just said.

Fritsche...I see that happening...he's a 3rd liner with upside. Voros...not so much...but, I'll take him over Hollweg.

I am not optimistic about next year. We need a leader and I don't really think either Gomez or Drury are the guys to lead this team. Jagr was a leader, Shanny too, with them gone theres no leader. Naslund was a captian but you don't come to NY your first year and lead. I dont know *** is going to happen with this team next year. But I am going to be very mad if we only make it to the second round of the playoffs.

Im not worried about leadership.. Drury and gomez will be fine there.

I'm still worried about scoring. How will Drury and Gomez fare now that they are going against the top defenses.

Wasn't Drury a C in Buffalo? He's known as the leader type.

Better, and most importantly, DIFFERENT. this team has addressed a major problem. no definite focus on how the team will play. with the moves sather has made, i think its pretty clear what kind of a club this will be next year.

Mara may be coming back since the Rangers put an offer on the table for him (according to Sam). He would be great to round out our defense.

I keep seeing these threads popping up, but I really think it's way too early to talk about this stuff. Who knows what happens in training camp, who knows which kids step up and make the team?

If anything, at the very least, it's time to see what this group is really made off. Jagr is gone and now its on Drury, Gomez and their new highly-paid friends.

What major problem did we address? A PP QB in Redden? By addressing that problem like we did we created two others that now need to be fixed.

Please tell me how we are not?

Shanny was a bust last season for the most part, and although Straka worked his balls off, he was injured and on the decline.

Not to mention that Dubinsky, Staal, and Dawes are all a year older. Hopefully they will improve, even if it's by a small amount.

On defense... I'm not even going to go into that. We are clearly better I think

Or how do you know those guys won't bomb like the many before Avery who tried to fill that role? Avery you KNEW what you got, these guys we have no idea. The fact that you guys are excited about those names scares me, pass me some of those brownies please.

Well, I can't speak for you, but most of us had no clue what we were getting with Avery. There was talk that he was disruptive and a clubhouse cancer, and that he didn't bring a lot of offense. All of that proved to be largely untrue.

You said we are better on paper now. I think the roster we had at the end of the season was far superior ON PAPER than what we have now.
