Tom Renney is here to stay, for a looooong, looooong time. I think hes a seriously overrated coach, but these moves scream Sather getting players to fit Renneys style, rather than Renney converting players to play his style (with the exception of Zherdev, who played very well in a defensive system last year for the first time in his career)

No coach is perfect, 'Ferno, but it's hard to argue with his overall results.

Renney should stay, are you trying to blame Sathers stupid moves on Renney?

Well, outside of Patrick (the very first one) and maybe Keenan, Renney might have been the best Ranger coach. He is not the best in the league, but in the sorry history of our beloved franchise, he ranks pretty high.

How can you say Renney is overrated?

Because he doesn't act like a baby and throw things onto the ice every time he doesn't get his way?

It might seem like Tom Renney has been here for sometime now, and that we know him pretty well, but I'm not so sure that we do.

I'm not necessarily glad that Jagr is gone, but I will say that his departure may allow us to get the full Tom Renney "experience" for the first time.

I'm sure Gomez and Zherdev, maybe even Naslund will need some ego-managing every now and then, but that's nothing compared to the tiptoe tactics Renney was forced to use with Jagr.

He no longer has to think twice about how each of his decisions will affect Jagr. This is his team now, and at the very least, it will really show what kind of coach he is.

Maybe he wants a coach who changes his tie every single game.

I'd say that's about 35% Renney (and staff)'s fault. Both times we ran into, arguably, the hottest teams in the league at the time.

i want a coach with more fire, more passion, and one who doesnt make moves that make me scratch my head so often. I think Renney is overrated, not necessarily a god awful coach, but i think hes a perfect assistant coach. t he guy everyone on the team is friendly with, not the guy who ultimately sits or plays people. call me old school, but i like the coach to be the boss, not the friend.

either way, it is what it is, youve heard the last of my *****ing about him for a while, because hes here to stay, so complaining about it is pointless.

While he is not the best in the league he is an incredible X's and O's guy. He is even-keeled, fair and by all accounts has a great relationship with his team. He has managed a team that had some egos and kept everything together pretty well. He in my opinion is the guy you want teaching your kids how to play the game in the NHL.
Renney can stay as long as he wants. Not getting past the second round is not a fault of his, he just didnt have the horses. He can only play what Sather gives him. Two years ago they were essentially a one line team that no one thought was going to go anywhere and yet he took that team to the second round. A year later, they break up that top line and field a team that had obvious chemistry issues, couldnt score and he coached them yet again, to the second round.
Please, keep Renney around for a vey long time, pretty please, with sugar on top.

I used to be lukewarm on Tom, but I really have come to respect him and how he leads the team. It hasn't been since Keenan that I liked our coach and had faith in him. And ****, now I even have faith in Sather... *head explodes*

I thought we got to the playoffs three years in a row, not two.

Anyway, I think the jury is still out on Renney. The team's the Rangers have been defeated by in the 2nd round were just plain better. I think seeing the team getting younger (to an extent) might help because we won't have our key guys running out of gas when we need them.
