Can they handle another big contract? How are they gonna fill the roster?

I have a feeling that adding Jagr would not be advantageous in attempting maintain the younger stars on the roster (i.e. Staal, Malkin, Crosby, Fleury).

they already have 3 of those 4 locked up and jagr would only want a 2 year deal max

getting rid of sydor and gill would give the penguins 7,554,933 in cap room.....

Staal wont be with us very long, he already came out and said he does not see himself staying here very long.

Assuming Sydor waives his NTC, which i'm not sure about.

Huh? Link to me where he says this, Staal will be resigned next year to a long term deal if he has a great year, or a shorter term contract if he has another off year.

And they are count goligoski's contract on the cap sites, hes going to be in the AHL next season so that another 875K for jags

Then he goes to the AHL, refuses to report, and gets leclaired.

I don't recall him saying that, it was that Toronto reporter who wrote that disproven article about Mats Sundin's bad hip that made that claim. Staal probably won't stay with the Penguins if he fails at being a LW this season, but I don't think Staal himself has publicly stated he thinks he's a goner. I'm not sure what they'll sacrifice to fit Jagr in, but if Lemieux is truly pulling the strings and wants Jagr then Jagr will be on the team one way or another, even if it means sending a pick with Sydor to someone to clear room.

I thought Jagr was going to the Oilers?

Anyways, if Jagr comes, apparently Shero has to make room for him and i don't think i'm all that interested in someone for 2yrs that will make us lose a potential long term player. Btw, if Staal thinks he's worth 5m, see ya later Jordan.

If Staal thinks he's worth 5 million, I think you let him take an offer sheet at that point. Should the offer sheet come in at 5 million you match it, but if it goes up into 4 1st round territory you let him go and use that to keep your cheap rookie fill in pool stocked for awhile.

if jagr signs a two year deal he will be off the books just in time for us to take Staal to arbitration so it wouldnt have a long term effect...also i just miss that mullet lol

Staal is a RFA next July, so Jagr would still have one year left on his deal when Staal needs his next deal.

I'm bored so i am going to go on NHL 08 and trade Staal + Whitney for Jay Bouwmeester...if it works, it works and i can be happy but if not...stupid game and lame reality.

o my bad sry bout that...well in that case gill and sykora would be off the books by then and their combined salary (over 4.5m) should be enough to re sign him and if not o well...bye bye staal

Sources in Edmonton say that Lowe has told Pat Brisson not to do anything until contacting the Oil first.

Probably doesn't mean much but, Katz is certainly wanting to make a splash this off-season.

If I had to put odds on it:

Russia: 50%
Pittsburgh: 49%
Edmonton: 1%

Are you sure about that, because the feeling i got on the oilers board was that...

Edmonton: 900%
Penguins: a collective LOL
Russia: BUT HE"S CZECH THEY IS ENEMIES!!!?!!

(wait, are we allowed to joke or am i going to get gassed for this and thrown in a ditch?)

It's hard to compete when you were best pals with the owner during his playing days, even if they didn't get along as much when he came back out of retirement, its hard to still be mad with that kind of history.

Didn't know Jagr was handled by Pat Brisson. Brisson and Mario have been bosom buddies for years.

Not that it means anything. Don't even know why I posted it. I'd actually alter your numbers by taking 40 percentage points from the Pens and adding it to Russia.

That and he's the agent for Sidney isn't he?

That's just some craziness...and Messiah...dude you're hating on the Rangers after they've done pretty well? (Redden - ouch, but the rest pretty good).
