I was taking a look at NHLSCAP.com and I noticed that Frolik, Ellerby, Sweetland and Garrison all have cap hits over 1mill. Now I am not suggesting that these players aren't worthy of this type of money, but how is it that it could be this high without them playing a game in the NHL. I am especially surprised at Sweetland and Garrison coming right out of college and garnering this type of cap-hit, whereas someone like Matthias is only at 850,000 (after dominating in the OHL and world juniors)
Anyways, here are the numbers, I am curious as to what you all think about it because I thought there were restrictions on entry-level contracts, or are the cap-hits higher than the players actual salary for some reason??
08-09 09-10 10-11
Keaton Ellerby 1,300,000 1,300,000 1,300,000
Jason Garrison 1,280,000 1,280,000 RFA
Michael Frolik 1,275,000 1,275,000 1,275,000
Andrew Sweetland 1,030,000 1,030,000 1,030,000
Alright, I just realized that these are the "cap-hit" numbers (rather than actual salary), but why are they higher??
