Pretty even deals, personally I like Visnovky over Boyle, both are good, but I think Vis has proven to be a little more reliable on the defensive side of the puck. Vis has played for just as bad teams but has kept a better +/-.

for the record I think TB will suck again this year, all the talk and they have gotten no better, all the forwards they sigend will just be counter balanced by losing Boyle, he is a huge part of their team.

SJ is looking really good all of a sudden.

I still like Lubo more. He has average more points than Boyle, and his +/- is nice (-29? thats atrocious)

Boil traded for D Matt Carle, a first round draft pick, a prospect and a 4th round pick.

What do you think?
both had dissapointing seasons and should hopefully rebound. The winner will be determined if visnovsky rebounds or if this is the begining of his end of career slump. If he rebounds I think Edmonton got the better deal if he doesn't it is San Jose.

I think Matt Carle alone is worth more than Stoll and Greene.

I think Visnovsky is better than Boyle.

The Oilers got better value, but Boyle is a better all-around player I think.

Dan Boyle is really good but I don't think he's better then Visnovsky. Similar offensively but I give the edge to Lubo and a good team in front of him and I bet he's a plus player this season.

Oilers made a better trade.

Comes down to perpective. By moving Stoll, the oilers give the handover to Gagner and Cogliano and free up a spot for Brule.
Stoll is still not signed and may get 3mil a year once he is signed. I look at the deal as Greene for Libor and more icetime for the younger players. Looks like SJ may have given up less. But the oilers get more pop with their trade.

Horcoff missed half of last year and Stoll was inconsistant at best

SJ gave up Matt Carle (great young defenceman) & a 1st???

Who on this board wouldn't of dealt Stoll or Greene for a first???

I was mad when Stoll wasn't dealt for a 2nd at the draft.

Its pretty simple.

Carle > Stoll + Greene

Visnovsky > Boyle

Klowe wins another one. :O

SJS traded more and received less. (it was still a good trade for them though)

Excellent comparison, thanks for the breakdown.

Obviously shows you, what an excellent return KLowe got.

Those on this board that judge KLowe poorly don't know what they are taking about. Especially the Hockey News, and there 29th ranking of Lowe.

IN KLOWE WE TRUST!!!

and Wishart, who was a pretty highly projected prospect

Our trade was TONS better. this move comes back to bite SJ, i guarantee you.

Carle isn't a great young D man, He has a big salery of 3.6 mill and well played like he should be in the AHL last year.

Really Carle and Stoll kind of cancel each other out. After that they gave up more and got a slightly worst player who gets paid a mill per year more.

We did better for sure.

Carle became a massive dud last year after signing that contract... he isn't the same player as before

For the record, our new owners have said they aren't finished. We had holes everywhere the past couple of seasons. Our lack of depth at forward positions is now all but fixed, and IMHO a Kolzig/Smith/Ramo tandem is fine. The D is obviously getting the attention now. Also, FWIW we won't be playing in Tort's post-lockout failure he called a system - which Boyle WAS a big part of.

I wasn't aware that Carle's stock had decreased so much.

I don't know about that. I don't agree, that's for sure. Visnovsky is very talented.

Well there is no way to statistically say that boyle is better, he has put up less points per game and has a much worse +/-, even if he is better, that is counterbalanced by his 1 mill more cap hit.

I think at best for Boyle, boyle = Visnovsky. I actually like Boyle, I just think lubo is better

Sure, but he hasn't been a shadow of his former self since the back to back concussions. I pray he doesn't get another.

Add to this, his point totals in 2005-06 may be inflated due to Pronger.

Please.....he's a young man that signed a big contract. And heaven forbid, a young player that's inconsistent. He'll be fine. I love some of the drama that comes on here. 'He's a massive dud....isn't the same player as before.' A little over dramatic here?
