I say thank you Jagr just so that he can't torture the Flyers anymore. Between the Penguins and Rangers he has always seemed to love playing the Flyers and I for one am glad to see him not in the division anymore. Am I glad that he's out of the league entirely? meh, not so much but beggers can't be choosers.

My favorite Jagr moments were Chris Therien always owning him.

I've disliked Jagr since I was a kid because he was supposed to do an autograph signing here at one of the convention centers, yet was a no show. When myself and a bunch of my cousins got to the convention center we were surprised to see a sign that said autographs were $50 each. This was early 90s, mind you, so that was an outrageous price. I said screw it, Jagr is an awesome player, I'll get one autograph and we stood in line with a huge contingent of others. An hour passed and the convention people said that Jagr would be there soon. We waited at least another 3+ hours with continuous updates from the staff saying they just spoke to Jagr and he'll be there shortly. Finally, after waiting for well over 4 hours the convention staff came out and told us that Jagr told them that he had been gambling the whole time. He lost a bunch of money and was too distraught to come and sign autographs. After that, I haven't been too big of a fan.

Can't be true, Bodrov can't receive an one-way-contract because he is part of the entry-level-system and every entry-level-contract has to be a two-way-contract.

My guess here is that Bodrov's right should have expired, but we still kept them because of the lack of a transfer agreement. The NHL rules however are still the same and I think he is old enough to recieve a one-way deal as his first contract. Don't quote me, I could be 100% wrong, but I think that is how it may pan out.

While I agree with what you are saying, I have to interpret word for word. The bottom line is - he is on his way!

I wonder if he's supposed to be the secret weapon or something, I remember Homer being very high on him.

Finally a Russian comes over to play for us. So this will make him guaranteed a roster spot then?

Timonen-Coburn
Jones-Vaananen
Eminger-Bodrov
Kukkonen/Parent/Platil

Looks like Parent is in the AHL next year I guess.

What exactly is the age to get a one-way contract because Jonas Frogren's contract with the Leafs was declined by the NHL because he needs to be on an entry level deal and he's like 26 or 27!

No, he'll be in the AHL. All entry level deals are required to be two-way contracts. Parent is a better player then Bodrov is at this point and a better prospect.

I don't expect Bodrov to seriously compete for a spot until next year at the earliest. We're going to have a ton of young defenseman coming through the ranks in the next few years with guys like Sbisa, Bodrov, Ratchuk, Bartulis, Marshall, etc... all challenging for a roster spot in the next 2-3 years.

CBA, Article 9.1(c), Entry-Level-Compensation, Applicability and Duration:

Quote:
Notwithstanding the chart set forth in (b) above, a Player who at the time he was drafted was playing for a team outside North America or who meets the qualifications set forth in Article 8.4(a)(v) (a "European Player") who signs his first SPC at ages 25-27 shall be subject to the Entry Level System for one (1) year. A European Player who signs his first SPC at age 28 or older is not subject to the Entry Level System under any circumstances.

On another note, training camp apparently begins September 14. That's less than two months, people.

Yeah? You're a regular observer on the RSL circuit? Bodrov could very well be good enough to be on our NHL roster right now. None of us know without having watched a lot of Russian hockey, which isn't even possible in North America as far as I'm aware.

You mean like "We have something else on the table for one other guy?"

Good news, but really, one of these defensemen must be packaged and sent off or something. Too many bodies, too much salary.
