Ottawa close to acquiring Bouwmeester?

The other guy than speculated that Martin would have to bring that to ownership much like the Jokinen trade.

Here were go again people!! Get excited, just not too excited cause you don't wanna get your hopes up. Would do cartwheels on the streets if this happened!! Murray would finally be coming through and show that he has had a plan all along. Screw Boyle, this is our deal.

Anyone with XM, listen in. Sometimes rumors start in the oddest places. At least it's not Eklund

If Ottawa got bouwmeester for a deal like that, they would have the best Defense in the east...

Phillips - Volchenkov
Bouwmeester - Meszaros
Schubert - Lee

I have a hard time believing that Neil/Vermette/1st rounder would get a deal done for Bouwmeester. Just not buying that. Sorry.

Even though Vermette is one of my favourite players, this for Bouwmeester would be pretty awesome.

If Florida takes less than Vermette and Meszaros, they are idiots.

If the Sens get Bouwmeester, you can be sure Lee is heading the other way.

You'd think so, but I think Murray would be reluctant to deal Lee, even for Bouwmeester.

This would be a hell of an acquisition for Ottawa. If Bouwmeester was put on a team like Ottawa he would be given more of an oppourtunity to shine instead of playing in Florida where he didnt get too much attention. I hope Ottawa can pull through with this deal, but Florida isn't exactly smart giving up Bouwmeester

Fair value? Maybe not.

But you have to realise that Martin has a huge mancrush on Vermette. That's Ottawa's one advantage in trying to do this deal.

That sounds like a really poor return IMO. Where's the impact player coming back? Neil and Vermette, as much as Martin might think so, aren't it.

I'm not going to get my hopes up on this one because Ottawa's name has been involved in every major Dman talk this week and come up short on everything. That being said, I would be fine seeing anyone but Heater/Spezza/Alfie moved to get this done. Even Lee or Karlsson, though ideally we wouldn't have to lose anyone on the backend.

Bouwmeester is a tremendous player and if Martin is indeed willing to trade him, I wouldn't make some measly offer to pretend I tried, if I were in Murray's shoes.

Amen to that. Neil is barely even an NHL'er, let alone putting the word 'impact' anywhere close to him. And as for Vermette, one of the most overrated, overhyped and overvalued garden variety forwards with 'upside'. Please.

Look at the Pronger trade... this one isn't much worse.

I'd say the prospect has to be Lee.

Even if this is complete bullsh**, it does make some sense. Bouwmeester is in for a huge payday after the cash that has been thrown at defenders this offseason. Florida just got Ballard and Boynton. I think it would be a bad call on Florida's part if for no other reason than they have a hojillion UFA's next summer and it would be good to lock up a core player, even if they have to overpay a bit.

Vermette is good, but he's questionable as the centerpiece for Bouwmeester. I have to think that another team would offer something more enticing. So it's not outlandish, but I think it's a bit hopeful on Ottawa's part.
