Why so much fuss about Jeff Finger?

Why so much fuss about Jeff Finger?
It might have been overpayment for him, but he is a solid defenseman, which these days do not come cheap. Yet it seems like most people are just making fun of this signing, or saying things like "Who on earth is Jeff Finger?"
I think this just goes to show how ignorant a lot of fans are about teams in the opposite conference from where their team plays in.
I think people should inform themselves about the player before making outlandish statements.
He was one of the only (sometimes the only) physical defenseman for the Avs last year, and I'll miss him, but thankfully we have pretty good depth on D.

Well in NHL 09 he will be on the first pairing of an NHL team (albeit a crappy one)

I think its beacuse literally everybodys reaction was : Who the **** is Jeff Finger? Even Fletcher and yes even Jeff Finger himself said almost the same thing.
Its kinda strange but IMHO its because for an Eastern Conference team the Western Conference is a different Universe.
Overpayment? Yes.
Could be a good playa for the Leafs? Sure.
Long live the bWo!

Its because he signed with the leafs. If he would've signed with say, the Bluejackets, nobody would've batted an eyelash.

OK, so who will it be? Kaberle + ?. Last I heard McCabe wasn't coming back.
And Finger is a lot better than Kubina.

But this case is just weird even for Toronto. I haven't heard any "Who is Hagman?" complaints.

And how many Avs games have you watched? Leafs and Avs are the two teams I watch the most, and trust me Finger is better than Kubina.

Because Niklas Hagman has played nearly 500 NHL games whereas Jeff Finger (who plays a position where exp counts for a whole lot more) has played 94.
Its pretty simple really.

Who else was in the running for Finger that offered "almost" that much coin, opportunity, or whatever it is, that required Fletcher to offer Finger that much in order to sign him?

Finger's representation must have had a huge party after getting that fax from Fletcher.

The fuss is that a player with less 100 games of NHL experience is being shown veteran's money.

No he isn't.
Jeff Finger is getting 3.5 mill a year and he's played 94 games. And he's 28, going to be turning 29...

Hockey Mecca, etc.
Anyone who is a Leaf gets 100x more attention than anyone else in the league.
It's kind of why no one is really critcizing the Boyle* deal, but if it was McCabe or Kubina in replace of him San Jose would be totally lambasted (look it up, it's a real word).
*6 years @ $6.67M and can't play defence

He was a healthy scratch in 5 of 10 playoff games.

Jeff Finger/Rory Fitzpatrick
Then Finger will be exposed as a fraud.

The "Fletchered Got Fingered" or the Leafs gave the finger jokes and all the body part jokes are so nauseating at this point. Actually, they were nauseating and so obvious and unoriginal before the first "clever" person on these boards used them. Having to read them over and over again is worse than the actual signing itself.
