Switching from right to left primary hockey hand

I was over a friend's house who only had left handed sticks. We started playing some pick up when I realized that I actually had a better shot left handed than righty.

I also figured that I would have better backhand control/shots because I am a righty in everything else I do.

Thoughts?

Nothing much anyone can say. Get a cheap RH stick and practice.

If you haven't played hockey more than a season or two, try it at sticktime (stick and puck, whatever) to determine which is truly best for you. I certainly wouldn't switch if you happen to have a stronger lefty backhand, but all other aspects of puckhandling seem more natural righty.

If you've played longer than that, and have been possibly using the "wrong" hand, I really don't know what to say, other than your stats should really improve now!

I think I read somewhere that most countries teach kids to shoot with their dominant hand on top with the weaker hand on the shaft, except for most of the US where some people are taught the dominant hand lays lower on the shaft and the top hand is the weaker..

@GOONSQUAD

That is the way I learned to play hockey. But after trying out the other way, it is much easier for me to stickhandle and take shots.

Just shoot the way that feels more comfortable.
If you are having a hard time deciding, hit up a yard sale and buy a stick of the opposite hand for $1.25 practice.
