What's more important to an owner?

Cup or profits?

Obviously owners differ sharply, and obviously a Stanley Cup championship leads to extra revenue, but what do you think: If you were an owner, would you care more about how much money you make each year, or the pride of owning a championship team?

As examples, we can say owning a non-playoff team in a great hockey market (like the Leafs) and a team not making good money that has won a cup recently (like the Hurricanes).

Tom Hicks, Star's owner, cares only about the money/business. His comment about the recent Stars run in the playoffs was "it will be great for season ticket sales." Funny thing is, he usually spends to the cap and spent money on the right players for the '99 and '00 Cup runs. So even though he has no passion in hockey, he seems to be an above average owner in the league. As for baseball, that's another story...

Personally, were I an owner (how I wi$h!), I'd consider it a false choice, for both would be equally important and my franchises only two objectives, annually.

For winning and making a profit are not mutually exclusive.

Has to be a Cup. A Stanley Cup run is straight profit. Players dont get paid in the playoffs.

It would depend on how much money I had. If it was Russian oil tycoon type of cash, it would be all about the Cups. Otherwise, making money would be the first priority with Cups a close second.

I am going to guess 9 out of 10 owners would go with profit, although cup usually equals profit and gives the team a good 4-5 years to cash in on it.
