good luck. RH defensemen are a rarity, and the ones that are available you won't get for Brown

While we need a tough physical d-man (especially with our injuries) I highly doubt Brown gets dealt. He's our best defensive center and prob our best PKer. Brown's the type of player we're gonna need if we make the playoffs to shut down a team top line.

If one of Drury, Briere, or Roy goes down who's gonna step up? Mair? While I love Mair he shouldn't be seeing third line ice time yet. More likely to see picks moved for a guy like Boughner.

Brown will be a UFA at season's end. Don't expect much for him. I'd like to see the Canucks pick him up to play between Cooke and Linden. Wouldn't offer anything more then a 3rd round, maybe 2nd round pick.

Basically, you are right that Brown is the sort of guy teams love to add for the playoffs. If the Sabres do decide to move him (and for the reasons you suggest, I don't think they will) they should get decent return.

I agree, I see Brown being of major value down to the deadline. He's fairly inexpensive, you're not married to a long term deal and he's had some playoff success. He's the 4th best center on the Sabres right now and pretty much a redundant play. I see him as the kind of guy that might end up getting over valued at the deadline and bringing back a pretty surprising return like Gleason for Smolinski or Vrbata for Battaglia. Of course neither of those guys were pending UFAs...

Sabres are on a roll, they will stick with what works, they are making a push for the playoffs, so if they do decide to trade him they will want better value in return, I dont see that happening anytime soon so I think they will hang on to him aslong as they are making a push for the playoffs and not a bottom feeder.

LIKE the RANGERS

Im gonna hear it arent I? Oh well its woth it, lol, hey maybe the Rangers want him for some Defensive capibilities? ONly if the fall out of the playoff picture.

League average is around $1.7 million I believe. I don't know how much Brown makes.

Judging by the ice time the last couple of games, I'd say Brown IS the Sabres 3rd line center;

vs Atlanta:
Brown 15:32
Roy 10:59

vs Toronto
Brown 16:16
Roy 7:13

Brown is the sort of player the Sabres are looking to acquire for their playoff run; a seasoned veteran who's a pending UFA. I can't imagine they'd have much interest in dealing him unless they dropped out of the playoff race.

He makes $1.6 mil which is below the league average (somewhere around $2-2.2 mil I think) and the current theory seems to be his one game in 94-95 counts as a "season" so he'll have 10 years under his belt and be Group V eligible. As DB48 said, think Todd Marchant and Darius Kasparaitis the year before that.

Martin Lapointe become a group V free agent in the '01 off-season, and his first pro season included just 4 games with the Wings.

his one game in 94-95 was pretty awesome-- my first game ever attended, a big win versus the Devils.
CuBro had a goal and an assist...

good times

Denis Gauthier and Eric Nystrom for Curtiss Brown and Brian Campbell.

Its been a while since I've actually made any proposals.

Wayne Primeau scored in that game too. Our '94 draft class peaked right then and there.

You know I'm not a big fan of either Gauthier or Nystrom but that has the basic framework of what kind of return I'd expect on a Brown/Campbell deal. I could live with it.

that works for me.

I believe curtis is one of the few sabre regulars that has value to a contender and could be moved to improve the team. i dont think darcy will be parting with any of the young core (afinogenov, pyatt, tallinder, etc) like many others believe. Lindy came out and dogged Curtis recently. he even said Hecht was the best defensive forward (he can play center too) and best penalty killer. Pyatt has been one of the better d forwards recently. and Ruff has been known to use many other forwards on the PK too. If Brown and Campbell can get us an upgrade on the blueline. id be all for it.

Brown and Campbell for Gauthier
and
pick/prospect for Boughner

i think the sabres would be in good shape

Pass. We can do better with that package. I'd don't see how Campbell warrants a first round pick.
