I'm not disagreing with you here LTL, but why would the Leafs want a 2nd round pick ( I believe second round picks have a 25% chance of being an NHLer, and not necesarily a good one ) for a proven NHLer (like him or not) who is young, had a very good contract, can play on your top 6, and has the potential to get better. I'm not a fan of White myself, but I think he is undervalued here on this board, and is worth much more than being given credit for. Looking around the NHL, defenceman (esp young ones with good contracts) are quite valuable. Look at what the B's got for trading Boyes away.

I have said it above and after reading everything here I still believe Matt Hunwick and a fourth are fair value for White.

White has no place on this team and would have to clear waivers to be sent down. Toronto has no one on the Marlies next year that can be called up in case of injuries.
Hunwick solves that problem for the Leafs.

Hunwick has played all of 13 games in the NHL and that is why a draft pick would be included.

Berger just reported on the fan that Cliff doesn't want him back. Why he's doing this again, publicly, is beyond me.

But, looks like White is on the way out of town, via trade, waivers, etc.

If Cliff is talking to Berger he needs a slap. If Berger is making sheit up he needs a kick in the rump.

If Cliff indeed spoke of this, on record, with Howard, he's gone ahead and killed another players trade value before he even hits the market.

If i'm MLSE i'm putting a gag order on the whole organization until puck drop next season.

This BS of publicly stating guys are no longer a piece of the puzzle going forward is beyond rediculous.

I think we all knew somewhere something had to give, and Ian White is quite clearly the one to go. People keep bringing up his "attitude problems" and his DUI, and other charge, but there has been nothing to suggest he isn't a team player at the NHL level.

As for going public, I don't think it kills his trade value at all. In fact, it reassures me that Cliff knows who has to be moved and that they in fact will be moved (It also cuts down on speculation threads ). I suppose his thinking is that there will be a bidding war for Ian White's services because there is no doubt he is a much more widely regarded asset outside of leaf land. A cheap lower pairing defenseman that can play on the PP is a pretty good asset for those close to the cap.

Personally, I expect a 3rd rounder + another late pick... I am however getting a little sick of the waiting game.

After Kovalchuk, Atlanta are really hurting for talent IMO but yes good goaltending could make them competitive just like N.Y.I. The Islanders have a bunch of forwards I consider the "dregs" of free agency: Sillinger, Comrie, Guerin, Weight all who are on the last year of their contracts. Look for the Islanders to send these players packing at the trade deadline and then watch the team take a mega nosedive.

P.S. I moved my post to the "Last Place" thread as I posted it in the wrong thread.

Even with the percentages a 2nd round pick will never go to waste. A GM (especially Fletch) could use that 2nd to select another player or in a bigger trade for someone else. If he's an asset who doesn't fit on your team you may as well move him.

It also depends on what the other team is offering player wise.

I've actually been a big White fan because he's always been the underdog but his shortcomings on defence make him a likely target.

Again it depends on who the player is but in the Boyes trade the B's were giving up a much better hockey prospect then White so the return is a lot greater.

Well said, Cliff has done a piss poor job IMO, especially with the loose lips, and feeling to make the media privy to all of his doings and personaly situations with the players.
