Umberger signed to four-year deal

The thread title says it all; I just had the press release forwarded to me.

Very nice IMO. That is a nice contract considering the market this year. Not too big considering our budget. A little cheaper than the going rate for a 2nd line center.

Nice job HOWIE!!!

if he performs, which I hope he does as a closet CBJ fan, that deal will look terrific in two years.

If Howson gets Umberger and Leclaire to take less money in the first year, we could have a little extra cash we weren't expecting.

unless there is something specific they are trying to get, id rather the contract be frontloaded. so we have more to spend in the future.

Mike Commodore, as well.

Not bad. I was braced mentally for more than that. The best part about this is that it's one less thing for Howson to worry about. Now he can focus on getting Pascal signed and adding a point man for the PP or a proven top-six center.

As little of a deal as this signing is, it seriously made my day. Hopefully Pazzy and Filatov are soon to follow.

We need to win now, we need to spend money now.

frankly, I'm just a little concerned with the salary cap and how we have people locked up long term. I think I overreacted a little though, it's not a bad contract. It's not like Commordore's...

Actually...it's very close to Commies contract.

yeah, but I just don't think HE deserves that money.

Glad we didn't sign Umberger for more than 4 mil...

Commodore bugs me a little--his deal might as well have a no trade clause as I don't see anyone taking him at that price. Umberger doesn't really bug me at all--this is exactly what I expected from his deal. Either way, I'm not terribly concerned considering this team is still nowhere near the cap and we really don't have any significant free agents to re-sign over the next couple years...except for Nash.

I'm already mentally preparing for all the Nash to Toronto rumors that will inevitability pile up on HFBoards.
