Jagr

Not sure if you guys saw this... but Jagr was apparently closest to signing in Edmonton, but couldn't get the term he wanted (3 yrs).

Pittsburgh, Edmonton and the Rangers are believed to be the three teams that had the most interest in Jagr. All of them offered one-year deals.

"I want to thank all the teams that still believed in me and still made an offer," said Jagr. "Edmonton was probably the biggest offer I got. It was a great offer, to be honest with you."

While Jagr refused to say - "I don't want to get into that" - it's believed Edmonton offered a one-year deal worth around $8 million.

"I wish them good luck and thanks to (GM) Kevin Lowe and the new owner," said Jagr. "It wasn't an easy decision."

We heard, Ryan Rishaug(sp), say something to that effect yesterday on Total Sports on The Team 1260, too bad. Oh well, you can't blame him for wanting security.

These older players are going have to realise, it's in every teams best interest to sign them to 1 year deals.

Inability to ever clear up that cap space in case of retirement or injury.

The new CBA should address that. Otherwise we'll see a lot of those Peter Forsberg/Scott Niedermeyer/Teemu Selanee type situations.

How many times do Edmonton fans have to hear:

" Edmonton had a great offer. Thank you. However, I decided it was in my best interest to move to...."

Blah. All lip service. At the end of the day, Edmonton is no further advanced...
