Vermette has asked to be traded.....

As per Ek----who may have legit sources----Vermette may be gettin' the hell outta dodge and maybe, straight to Gotham.

Jason Williams 3 years at 1.9 million per season/Vermette asks to be traded.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=16204

No connection or rumors to the Rangers yet----but who can go to free up salary and bring him in? Maybe a few of our countless 4th-liner scrappers and picks??

***Updated at 3:21pm, Predators and Blackhawks are after Neil, with Murray looking for a defensemen in return.***

They're gonna need some grinders, scrappers and character depth---we got plenty with the like of Voros, Fritche etc..........I'd love for this to come together.

Just imagine the lines.

Thought he was looking for $4 million? Even at $3 million, I don't see how we could fit him.

Hate to crash this thing back to a little place called reality, but theres no way in hell Ottawa accepts a couple of 4th liners and picks for Vermette.

We probably have the assets to pull this thing off, but it would involve a name or two that most fans probably wont be willing to part with.

True.........I don't think their is a realistic fit with the cap

I would offer Prucha, Callahan and Orr for Vermette and a pick

But that is it

Obviously you'd have to give to get. Start with Prucha and it begins to look like it might fit under the cap. Having said that, and bearing in mind that I would LOOOOOOOOOVE to add Vermette, I see two other problems:

1) According to all the pundits, the Sens need D (even though they currently have 7 guys under contract/RFA). We have none to offer. If this is true, unless a third team enters the mix, I don't see how it works.

2) Looking now at our roster, I see 6 guys (Gomez, Drury, Dubinsky, Naslund, Dawes, Prucha) who realistically can play C or LW on our top 2 lines and, outside of Zherdev, no one to play RW on the top 2 lines. Prucha is the only real choice (unless we think Fritsche/Sjostrom/Callahan is ready for that responsibility?) and, besides being at best the riskiest of the players I listed, his greatest success has always come playing at LW. (Besides, I'm operating under the assumption that Prucha would almost certainly have to be one of the players going the other way in order to make it work under the cap.) Antoine Vermette plays - you guessed it - C/LW. Assuming we do move, say Prucha, Callahan, Sauer and a pick to get Vermette (don't know if that would get it done, I'm just throwing names out there), what are our lines? Who plays 2nd line RW?

I hope we get him.

Prucha, Callahan, Potter

Naslund - Gomez - Zherdev
Vermette - Dubinsky - Drury
Dawes - Anisimov - Korpikoski
Fritsche - Betts - Sjostrom

Staal - Redden
Rozsival - Girardi
Kalinin - Mara

Lundqvist / Valiquette

Not bad.

the problem is that you still have 4 players on the bench....

orr, hollweg, voros, rissmiller.....and two of them are making a million a year....anisimov i think will be in the AHL this season so move fritsche up and add vors on the 4th......

HV was responding to PikkuMikku who had proposed including Cally in the deal to get Vermette.

ottawa would never accept this trade...

throw in a 1st and it might get done but vermette for prucha (who had one good year...one fair year...one terrible year)
callahan (who has upside but not higher then a 3rd line player) and potter? why would ottawa accept that?

the rangers can't to pay for vermette in roster players nor can they fot him under the cap..

the rangers still have 3 of there own restricted free agents to sign!

great job by sather though...an incomplete team with no cap room...

I think alot of people are looking at vermette as a 1st line winger....he is a 2nd line winger at best....he is a great 2 way player dont get me wrong but he will never score you 40 goals and put up 90 points he will give you 25 goals 60 points at best so if they want more then prucha, callahan, potter and a later pick then i wouldnt want him...its not like we are getting spezza or heatley its vermmette

I think vermette has a lot of room to grow but the rangers can't afford to pay for him..

ottawa isn't going to give up vermette for our depth..its not gonna happen imo..

the person I quoted is hoping the ottawa gm likes borderline 2nd and 3rd line players..the rangers would have to give up a 1st round pick for vermette with that putrid package...

I love Vermette as a player and would enjoy seeing him in blue - but honestly any hope of him coming to the Rangers is a pipe dream because:

1. Ottawa needs D
2. Even if Ottawa needed forwards, Prucha/Cally is not even close to getting it done
3. Lack of cap room

IF Roszival didn't just resign with us I could see a package centering around him + Prucha/Cally + prospects/picks - but obviously you don't sign UFAs and then trade them 2 weeks later.

lol at some of the offers in here.

It's going to take two of Dawes/Callahan/Korpikoski and thats just a start.

Things change dramatically if a guy like Sanguinetti is made available but I think most people on this board, myself included, would be heavily against that.

perhaps you mis understood me.

I said that two of dawes/callahan/korpikoski would be a start. Not all three, not all three plus sanguinetti, not two plus sanguinetti.

and you're kidding yourself if who ever gets Vermette doesn't give up equal or more value than a Dawes/Callahan + 2nd round pick package.
