Early Prediction: Where Will The Blue Jackets Place?

Barring that we add any additonal players, and you make your own assumptions regarding our younger players, where does our team finish in the conference.

This is what the team could possibly look like on opening night.

Nash-Umberger-Huselius
Modin-Brassard-Torres
Chimera-Peca-Voracek
Murray-Malholta-Boll

Tyutin-Hejda
Klesla-Commodore
Backman-Russell/Rome/Methot

Leclaire
Norrena

some of these parings and lines are without a doubt not set in stone...

poll didn't add my 13-15 option...bummer for the cynical posters....Just assume the 4th option is 11-15

What, no option for 13-15? That's what I would have chose. *edit* (I said that before you edited post)

But really, the Jackets are making the playoffs this season. I don't care about the roster, they're making it.

I chose 6-8

What if I predict something here and it's different from the "Now that camp is here what do you think the Jackets will do this year" or the "It's the day before the first regular season game so where will the Jackets finish" thread? That's pressure.

Customary spot down at the bottom, barring any further moves.

Not that I'm not happy overall with the moves made. I just don't see enough right now to put the team over the hump. In fact, I would not be surprised at all to see a bit of a step back from last season, with the team falling out of contention earlier.

We don't have enough scoring yet. If we can flip one or two of these guys into a decent scoring line center, we'll have a shot at the playoffs.

Maybe slightly ironic from someone whose handle is Ar-too - I think Nashville, otherwise known as Darth Vader, will still thoroughly dominate us at this stage. Their lineup is still better than ours and I don't think we've acquired the kinds of guys that will get them out of our heads.

I voted-- but talk to me when the schedule comes out. If the CBJ get a favorable schedule this season-- you may see my prediction change.

I'm putting my money on that one of Brassard and/or Voracek have a break out campaign and give us that extra boost of scoring that will be needed to get us to that 220 - 230 goal mark.

We have the playoff caliber defense but need a better PP and scoring and I don't think we have quite enough unless one of those guys (perferably both) give us a boost. Russell is going to have to give us more as a PPQB as well to get there and I think he will.

Leclaire will also play 65+ games for us and put up similar numbers to last season with an even better defense in front of him.

I think we have much better depth and a very good system to fall back on with injuries and to help us get through the "down" times.

Lots of *ifs* *buts* and *hopes* but I see a lot of Western Conference teams with the same quesiton marks.

I have a lot of confidence in the directoin this franchise is going and this is the year we get some results.

I think we eek in the last week of the season.

If not, oh well -- I'll be back next year hoping again.

i would put jackets ahead of these 2 teams. if the forwards can stay healthy i can see 7-8th place. hitch is a very good coach and the team is lookin more solid on the defence without losing to much skill. there might be some very boring games though, hitch loves a perfect defensive game.

Let's just get shutouts the entire season.

We could get 82 points even if we don't score!

Win a few games and we are easily in the playoffs.

I see us being in as good if not better position by the trade deadline. We WILL ADD, we have no option of subtraction. After the subtractions at the deadline our depth was worn and we struggled down the stretch. A jolt of a Brad Richards type of acquisition could have made the difference.

I also am optimistic we will add an impact player before the start of the regular season AND we will get a nice surprise from one of our rooks.

6-8

Just my homer guess based on the current rosters, in tiers:

Play-off Locks:
DET, SJ

Very likely play-off teams:
DAL, ANA

Could make the play-off's:
CAL, EDM, PHO, CHI, NASH

Longer shot teams:
CLM, VAN, STL, MINN, COL

No chance:
LA

It wouldn't surprise me if any of the "Longer shot" teams made the play-off's just based on injuries or team play. I like the changes that CLM made, but I can't put them above any of the teams on that list when their #1/2 center combination is Umberger/Brassard.

This is the first season ever that I fully expect the Blue Jackets to make the playoffs. This is by far the best team that the CBJ have ever put on the ice and it isn't even close. Look at what we did last year with nothing besides Nash, Zherdev, and Leclaire. With a better defense in front of Pazzy, his numbers will improve. We have the d-men to get that first outlet pass which will result in more goals. Nash scores 50 this year having Huselius on the other side of him. I also expect Brassard and Voracek to have breakout years. Many teams in the west have question marks. Detroit, San Jose, Anaheim, and Dallas are locks for the playoffs. I have a funny feeling about this team. This team is going to be something special. Call me the optimist, but like I said, this is the first time I've ever said this about our beloved Blue Jackets.

I'd say more like this:

Top 1,2,4,5 (no order):
DET, SJ, DAL, ANA

NW division 3rd spot
CAL, MIN, EDM

Fight for last 4 playoff spots:
PHO, CHI, NASH, COL, plus whoever doesn't win the NW title from CAL, MIN, and EDM.

Bottom 4
CLB, VAN, STL, LA

Gotta love the optimism - but you're projecting all the positves:

1) Huselius GREATLY improving RN's play, when KH is an incredibly streaky player.
2) Break-out years from 2 rookies with a combined 17 NHL games
3) Improved play from Leclaire who is coming off an incredible season

Hope you're right!

Yeah, I am very optimistic about this season

1) Huselius, while streaky, is better than anyone Nash has had at his other wing, IMO. Huselius will set Nash up more because people will not be allowed to focus 100% of their attention on him, they have to pay some attention to Huselius or he will put a few in the back of the net. Not only that, but Nash has Umberger as his center. May not be a #1 center, but better than anything Nash has had before. Put quality around a world class player, and that world class player gets better. Nash has never had that quality around him before.

2) Heard of Toews and Kane? Rookies can come in and make big impacts. I'm not expecting a 30 goal year from Voracek or a 40 assist year from Brassard, but if Brassard does earn, and I stress, earn his spot on that top line, he's going to put up some points. Voracek has gotten bigger and absolutely crushed all the competition last year in juniors. I think he will come in and put up 15-20 goals. Nothing spectacular from these 2 players is expected, just solid players.

3) Leclaire had an amazing year last year with not much defense in front of him. Adding Tyutin and Commodore to Klesla and Hejda provides a much better top 4 than we had last year. Improved D should result in less goals, hense a better season for Leclaire. Of course this is all depending on Leclaire staying healthy of course.

I may be an optimist but I believe in this team and what it has set out to do this year, and that is make the playoffs. And I think they will. If I'm wrong, well then I'm wrong, but I believe in this team.

GO JACKETS!!!!!!!!
