Exactly. You could stick Kovelchuk with ANYONE and they are BOUND to put up a ton of points anyways.

Of course Kovalchuk is the best player in this deal but I would reluctant to trade for just one top 6 forward when Sedins are two consistent 70-80 points players.

Replacing the face of the franchise and one of the most exciting players in hockey with Swedish twins who like NASCAR is not a sound marketing strategy. Atlanta area NASCAR fans who don't like hockey aren't going to suddenly like hockey because of the Sedins.

How do you know that? Nascar fans are pretty loyal. Especially if the Sedins sponser a decent driver, make some noise..

How do you know they will? How much money is it going to cost them to sponsor a decent driver?

And even if they do, is it enough to offset the loss of your franchise player?

Kovalchuk outscored the both of them....

52 goals > 44

Kovalchuk also played 3 less games, could have gotten more...

Really? Because Atlanta's leading scorer after Kovalchuk and Hossa was Eric Perrin with 45 points. Even Kozlov only had 41 points.

If you though Vancouver was a poor offensive team, wait until Kovalchuk is scoring 90+ points and no one else is above 50.

Let me ask you this,

If Kovalchuk is unhappy with his current situation and requests for a trade, which Don Waddell honors, then realistically what return do you expect from him?

I would think Sedins would be as good as it gets in terms of trade value.

IMO, this kind of swap would work from a value perspective but not so much from the marketing side, especially with how less than charismatic the Sedins are.

Kovalchuk would also have another player added to play with him and you'd have to add whatever stats he put up as well to make the comparison valid. The fact that people are trying to compare the stats of two players to one and using sums like that means anything about the difference in talent level is funny. The Sedins combined scored more points than Ovechkin did last year, guess people wouldn't want him for those two either.

Far better than what Florida got for Jokinen.

You could definitely do a lot worse than the Sedins.

First of all, if Kovalchuk requests a trade, then the situation is different. Dany Heatley requested a trade and the fans were understanding.

Secondly, that has nothing to do with the marketing discussion going on.

I'm sure a lot of Thrashers fans will disagree. For good reason.
