Suggestions for future threads:

RUMOR: KOVY FOR SEDINS?
PROPOSAL: ATL/VAN - BOTH TWINS FOR K-CHUK?
RUMOR: KOVALCHUK TO VANCOUVER (E4)
RUMOR: SEDINS ATLANTA BOUND?
PROPOSAL: KOVALCHUK GOOD FIT FOR VANCOUVER, HENRIK AND DANIEL GO OTHER WAY
Good Stuff....I'll merge this with thread from yesterday

That'd certainly look interesting: Gillis loses the team's top 3 scorers from 07/08. The team would look equally as interesting:

Kovalchuk - Demitra/Sundin - Bernier
Pyatt - Demitra/Sundin/Kesler - Raymond
Burrows - Wellwood/Kesler - Cowan
Hordichuk - Johnson/Wellwood - Shannon

No certainty in Van City, all hopefully something good comes out of it.

Vancouver really overrates the Sedin twins! The Sedin twins = Kovalchuk I guess the Sedin twins + a 1st round pick probably = Crosby or Ovechkin and the Sedin twins + a minor leaguer will get you Malkin... Man, people in Vancouver really love to dream, but that deal ain't happening. It would take a ton to get Kovalchuk out of Atlanta right now, if they can't resign him in a year or 2 maybe it won't, but right now you'd have to gut your franchise of all it's good young players + high draft picks etc. to land this guy.

H. Sedin - 76 pts.
D. Sedin - 74 pts.

It's not a fair thing. Because you actually open up a spot on the roster (which = some points) AND you have money in 1 player instead of 2 (say both Sedins make 12 million together vs. Kovy making say 10 million)

To add to your point if I may...

The twins are also 2-way players and the Canucks have a stupid-good record when they score. They are solid top-six NHLers, despite what know-nothing-fanboys around here may think.

it's not fair but it's the truth.

You're trading away 140+ points for 87.

I think there ought to be tighter controls on thread-starting.

what is it with all these ridiculous Atl-Van proposals?
Why would the Canucks, who are still very short on offensive players, make a trade that leaves them even shorter?
If Burrows & the prospect wash and the 2nds wash, then its both Sedins PLUS a first for Ilya? Absurd.

I think this is a terrible deal for Vancouver. The value isn't bad but it doesn't do them any good to trade away a 1st line center and winger for a 1st line winger.

If you want to trade an 80 point centre and an 80 point winger for an 85 point winger...by all means. We may smoke a lot of dope out here, but we're not retards.

Would Kovulchuk even work in Vancouver's system, let alone the more defensively tighter NW division?

If its Sedin's for Kovy straight Vancouver bites.

As if any of them can get close to a 50 goal-with-anybody-centering-scorer in terms of value. At some point, he was outscoring Vancouver (GPG average of 2.54) by himself (referring to the many hat-trick games).

Ilya is a top 5 offensive player in the league. The Sedins are hanging out in the top 30.

This is interesting in that both sides seem split. It's a classic quality or quantity conundrum. Are 2 good players worth one better player? I wouldn't do it from the Canucks perspective unless Sundin is signed, and maybe still wouldn't then. We can't run a one-man offense; our top 6 isn't talented enough to deal two for one.

Completely bunk argument, no merit whatsoever. Please explain to me how that somehow de-values them?

Kovalchuk has more goals than both the sedins combined. Seems you 'Nucks fans keep forgetting that, or don't want to admit that.

What's harder, a 50 goal scorer, who could potentially reach 60, or two players who get 70-80 points?

If Gillis can pull something like that off, i'd actually respect my hometown team once again.

That's a stupid question.

What's more important for Atlanta, having two guys that will provide them offense or have a star player that will likely take off when the time comes because he's sick and tired of playing with bottom 6 players made out to be top 6 centers?

Ilya will eventually take off, its not a matter of if, more like when. Atlanta should be looking at what they can get. I'm not saying the twins for him is a good package, it's a start though. If Vancouver wants to make a legit push for Kovalchuk, i'd go with the twins + bieksa for Kovalchuk and a pick or a prospect.

Let's not forget what guys like Thornton went for, Boston would be lucky to get the twins for thornton, they settled for much much less. Same with Edmonton for Pronger etc...get my drift?

I forget what name of the thread was, but it explained how the pts combined produced by the twins are not a true 150pts because they were in on most if not all of each others goals. Kovalchuk scored 52 goals last season where as the twins combined for 44.

Yeah - and if the twins werent playing with the likes of Taylor Pyatt, a pouty out-of-position Naslund, and scrubs all the time they would combine for a lot more than 150 points. Hell, they combined for 165 2 years ago with Pyatt as a constant...what is that telling you? Sending any signals? I would love Kovalchuk here but it would have to be a better deal than that. The twins AND a 1st and 2nd? Not a chance.
