Don't know where he'll end up next season, but here's a Jason Ryznar sighting. Keeps good company!

Sounds very good for Lowell. Top 3 on his team in scoring in his first 4 years in the AHL, last season had 46 pts in 66 games for 6th on the Rampage (he missed 14 games). Eerily consistent too--his goal scoring totals in the AHL are 22, 22, 22, 21, 22.

He is--of course--a Providence College alum.

Interesting that he only signed an AHL deal, it must be for decent money. EDIT: see info below.

The Devils announced today that they have signed defenseman Jay Leach and forwards Jon DiSalvatore and Chad Wiseman. All three are expected to play in Lowell of the American Hockey League.

In addition, defenseman Matt Cohen and forwards Tyler Burton, Eric Castonguay and Brad Mills signed contracts with the Lowell Devils.

sounds good to me. Maybe after a year in the AHL, if he impresses lou, he can get a couple call ups. I like the way our offensive depth looks like.

I don't see how Lowell can miss the playoffs this year.

Updated in the first post. I think with all these signings, perhaps it's safe to say that someone is getting bumped up to the NHL.

Making the playoffs would be a financial disaster. Anyone know the record for lowest attendance for an AHL playoff game? I bet Lowell could beat it.

PS -- the L-Devils confirmed some signings on their website.

The New Jersey Devils today signed three players: defenseman Jay Leach, and forwards Jon DiSalvatore and Chad Wiseman. In addition, the AHL Lowell Devils signed four players: defenseman Matt Cohen, and forwards Tyler Burton, Eric Castonguay, and Brad Mills. The announcement was made by Devils’ President/CEO/General Manager Lou Lamoriello. As per club policy, no further terms were disclosed.

Keep in mind that a bunch of guys will play in the ECHL. Locks in the NHL or AHL would be:

Forwards: Pelley, Bergfors, Vrana, Halischuk, Tallackson, Wiseman, DiSalvatore, Fedorov*, Zharkov. 1 will definitely be in the NHL, probably no more than 2 will be.

Defense: Salmela, Corrente, Fraser, Leach, Eckford. That's with 9 dmen on the NHL roster (hopefully Vish will be unloaded). If Lou can get a good dman, Brookbank is probably the first to be sent down, and perhaps Eckford spends some time in the ECHL playing a ton of minutes, for a short stretch.

Very strong possibilities for the AHL: Murphy, Gionta, Davis. Mondou, Snetsinger, Swift could probably either be really good ECHL players or solid AHL players. I'm guessing one or two of them will spend decent time in Trenton, depending on how they do in camp.

Defense: Magnan, Zimmerman, Ruggeri* (not sure his contract status). With all of the guys listed above, obviously at least one of these guys will be spending time Trenton.

Headed for Trenton: Mills, Castonguay, Burton, Leblond. Not sure about the contract statuses of the Pandolfo's, Kell, Rooney and others.

Defense: Tarkir* (if he's still under contract), Cohen. I don't know what other dmen are under AHL contracts.

I also wonder if Leblond will be in Lowell just to protect a pretty young, kind of soft team.

In the AHL, teams usually don't draw as well in the playoffs as they do during the regular season. League average was 5,270 a game R/S and 4,233 a game P/O -- but most of the teams that didn't advance into the later rounds (e.g., Hartford, Albany, and Manchester) got far less than the 80% of R/S (Hartford's was 37%, Manchester's was 42%, Albany's was 47%).

The L-Devils averaged 2,102 "paid attendance" (i.e., not tushes in the seats) during the 2007-08 regular season. It's likely they'd draw about 500-1,000 during the playoffs. I don't know the terms of their contract to use the Tsongas Arena but I think they'd have to pay extra to rent the barn for the playoff games. They'd pay bonuses to the players. They'd have to rent hotel rooms for the players for the road games, something they went out of their way to avoid during the regular season. I suppose there would be lots of other expenses, too. None of this would be covered by the 500-1,000 tickets they'd sell for their home games. So making it to the playoffs would be a huge financial burden.

Great news for Trenton if Lou sticks to what he told TG about Frazee working with Clemmenson in Lowell. Hoping Lou doesn't change his mind.

Not sure if that would be great. Is Clemmenson going to teach him to be a mediocre backup because i think he has that down already?

Simple - being a Trenton sth I would much rather have Caruso than Frazee. Just being selfish.

Not selfish. Big picture. It really does make a difference to the prospects, if they believe they're playing for a winning team. Playing for a proven loser s*cks.

So if the T-Devs don't get Caruso, will Smith be the starter again? Who's going to be his backup?

looking at nhl.com updates of the player listings, looks like the Devils have signed Matt Spiller for Lowell/defensive depth

link

if true, I expect TG to have a blog update about it today; as of a few days ago, Spiller was listed without an org.

Pretty funny Holly:

In New Jersey they have Martin Brodeur and some other guy who never plays...Kevin Weekes (had to look that up).
