Marek Malik

I cant believe this guy is still on the market. He is one of the flashy europeans i love to watch. He always gets the puck out and is very dependable on the defensive front.

any thoughts on where he will end up..... or is he the perfect candidate for the Russian league?

Flashy? Is the sarcasm meant for your whole post or just the KHL point? Malik is a decent transition player, he can make a very effective first pass, but his usefulness in the NHL pretty much ends there. He is not physical, is not good at retrieving the puck, he's awful at pinching/keeping it in on the blueline, and he's SLOW. That shootout goal is in no way representative of his game, and I would not be surprised at all to learn that his NHL career is over.

Unless he chooses to go abroad, I can't imagine that he's not a top6 d-man somewhere in this league.

Rangers fans hated him because he was huge (6'6 I believe) and refused to throw body checks (or any type of check), and would often be caught flat footed.

That said, I always liked him, and that shootout goal was hilarious, I remember watching it live. The best part was his [and the benches] reaction after scoring

He's a good guy to park in front of your net as he'll block most shots with little or no effort.

But he's a bit slow and takes some lazy penalties.

I too am a bit surprised that he hasn't been picked up. He must want Kontinental-type money or something.

i think he will hop on with another team....he is a pretty good defenseman, its just he was playing out of his depth on the rangers....he should be a second or third pairing defenseman who plays on the pk as he is very good on the pk due to his reach...he blocks a lot of shots and is steady...

Last season Malik finished third in the NHL behind only Ryder and Halak in HFBoards trade proposals involving his name. His ability to mobilize and excite a fanbase is unprecedented.

The guy played the toughest minutes out of any Rangers defenseman last season and finished around +15.

I don't know why everyone hates him so much. He's a good hockey player and everyone thinks he's terrible.

Flashy? Dependable? Malik? What, What, What..... He may have been the scapegoat last year but he still is sluggish, has no hands, no awareness, and non-physical.

He is decent. The reason the MSG fans turned on him..

#1 He never throws the body, never a hit

#2 Hes slow and gets burned to the outside pretty easily. His stats are seriously padded by being on the ice with Jagr and his puck possession

#3 He, although good most of the time, made a few glaring game losing flubs. Passing to the wrong team, putting it in his own net etc.

It happens, but he had some bad luck, and hes slow, and doesnt hit = whipping boy

He'd actually be servicable for the right $$$ on a posession team with a big top line.

I don't, I'm a Rangers fan and a massive Malik one. Hope he finds a good team. Malik did well at the Rangers and just cos some of the fans booed him doesn't mean he's a bad player. A career +136.

He complained when he was scratched and Strudwick didn't? Well of course, Strudwick is a poor player and Malik isn't.

Malik is about as useless as Aki Berg.

I would rather see him retire and start working at the Hollywood Deli.

A puck bag

In all seriousness, it's a shame he got a bad rap as a Ranger. He was a victim of circumstance playing top line minutes when in reality he is nothing more than a serviceable 2nd pairing guy. Any team that throw's less than 2 million at him will be very happy.
