seriously how often in this franchise's history have they actually had good luck? Luongo.... Bure.... in almost a 40 yr history!!

and also, if Sundin retired after his first year, on a 2yr deal, the canucks would still have his full cap hit for the 2nd season against the cap... players his age signed to multiple years have their full cap hit against the cap, whether they retire or not...

Funny for everyone but Canucks fans. Suicide rates in the lower mainland would hit an all-time high.

Why are people forgetting that just a little over a week ago he said he still wasn't even close to deciding if he wanted to play at all? Everything indicated he was going to take his time until late July/early August at the earliest.

I have a hard time believing that a guy who has a reputation for taking his time and sticking to his guns would all of a sudden have a change of heart so quickly.

Dreger's busy pouting about Nonis not getting another GM job while Gillis is making him look bad.

Funnier if he signs with NYR and effectively flips the bird to an entire country.

They must have insurance available for something like this.

Bure, Naslund, Luongo in 40 years... pretty much.

Even worse... he signs a 1 year/1 M dollar contract with Detroit!

That would be awesome!

Yeah he did want to win, afterall... right?

► Who here thinks Detroit doesn't already have the cup locked up? Edit: I guess somebody forgot to tell the Aquilini's.

Possibly good enough to watch?

The biggest benefit for them if Sundin signs is that it frees up the Sedins from the tight checking they utterly fail against. In theory.

The reality still shows a very brittle defense core that could all use a big rebound season. Not to mention Luongo himself.

You're reaching here. Local radio often breaks transactions before any national media. Quite often the local play-by-play guys or media types have more in depth relationships with the teams day-to-day operational staff and management then guys who work for TSN or Sportsnet. Well except for when Nonis was GM, since Dreger was his cousin I suppose.

a couple years ago, when vancouver went to the second round with next to no offense, losing only to the stanley cup winning ducks (3 OT games too), people were saying how scary vancouver would be if they could actually score some goals.

two years later:
-same elite goalie
-same top 5 defense (when healthy), and arguably better than 2 years ago due to the emergence of edler
-improved bottom six with the emergence of kesler and burrows last year, giving them a great checking line
-solid FA additions this year already (both the bottom 6 and top 6)

so why are people labelled 'crazy' when they say vancouver is close to contending? their one biggest weakness from 2 years ago (offense) would be well above average in the league with sundin, sedin, sedin (< all top 30 scorers), demitra, bernier, an emerging raymond, and kesler.

I just dont get why people have changed their tune so much; did vancouvers slide (injuries/distractions) near the end of last season really affect perceptions that much? Really, what weakness do you see, because people always pass vancouver off with no real explanation as to why, it just seems like to cool thing to do.

Ya, its called dont give a near 40 year old a 2 year 10 mil a year contract.

only way to not take a cap hit is if hes injured and cant play, and they put him on the LTIR list.
