Kovalev, THE most talented?

Precise description of our Russian Messiah according to Wikipedia.

"Kovalev is often considered by many critics to possess the finest raw skills in the game of hockey, surpassing the likes of great NHL standouts such as Sidney Crosby, fellow Russian Alexander Ovechkin and some even go as far as saying Kovalev surpasses the skills of Wayne Gretzky."

What, exactly, is talent? On which basis can we say that someone is more talented than somebody else?

he's one of the best puck handlers in the league, not overall talent. the are more complete players out there right now and in the past.

He's definitely up there in pure ability with the greats as far as I'm concerned.

I think if he had've played on a team like Gretz had, in the era that he played in, we would've seen a lot bigger point totals than what he has now!

He has the greatest puck skills I've ever seen. Greatest talent is taking it a bit too far though...

IMO, it's true and if you're more skilled than Gretzky, it doesn't necessarily mean you're the most talented player in history.Arguably, Kovalev is simply the most naturally gifted player in the NHL.

where are these arguments? you're just stating your personal opinions, and bt your avatar your a fan also.

he's top 3 in puck control in the nhl right now. i put him in the top 5 all time.

but your saying than kovalev is more skilled than gretzky that's just being ridiculous.

Yeah, and Gretzky wasn't really really talented too, he was just too smart for his peers. He did have great passing abilities, but the rest of his skills were pretty average. I find it most impressive that he could accomplish so much just with his smarts.

Ovechkin, Crosby, etc...are super-machines that has had a talent that was given to them at birth. While Kovy has to work at it, that way he's more of an artist that has to own his craft over time. Ovechkin is Silver Surfer; Kovalev is Doctor Strange.

that's true. Gretzky had a (WAY BETTER) hockey sense and vision. but he wouldn't dangle through the other team's defense. Kovalev has better skills.

When you have pucks scattered on the ice, no one will handle the puck better than Kovy. I just wish he could display this kind of skill with moving players.

p.s.
Don't forget the bionic elbow.

Because he has better raw skills , doesn't mean he's a better overall player than Wayne,
all it says is that if They'd have to compete in a skills competition, ex: shot accuracy, skating drills, puck handling...he'd beat Gretzky.

it doesn't mean he has the same vision and perfect positionning like the Greatest had...

RAW SKILLS is different than OVERALL play...obviously No one would be stupid enough to compare both of these players...STATS speak louder than that.
