Sprukts to return?

http://php.democratandchronicle.com/blog/sports2/?p=120

Looks that way. Probably would be depth and would start in Rochester.

I'd find it somewhat suprising that he did, as the new KHL has a Latvian team in it, where i assume he could make solid money. I'd love to see Sprukts given a shot, but if its just for AHL depth, from his perspective i'd rather we didn't.

I don't see the issue here. He wants another shot at the NHL and doesn't seem to have a problem playing in the AHL again to do it. He was a very good player for the Amerks 2 years ago, and the Amerks are short centers. If he makes the Panthers, more power to him, he earned it.

He has already proved he is a very good player in the AHL, and i remember people speculating who was better, Kreps or Sprukts that year. Kreps is now an NHL'er, and i hope Sprukts provided he has a decent camp is given a shot in the NHL straight away.

I hope this comes to pass because I think Sprukts has a good chance of making the Panthers roster and perhaps being the second line center. People forget that in his one season at Rochester, 58 games 18 goals 41 ast 59 pts, he WAS better than Kreps, at least as a potential scoring line center. If he does make it, it gives Matthias time to develop at Rochester.

He was solid, not spectacular, in his callup as well. Not great speed, but good passing skills and I think he could contribute or least be a first callup.

If i remember correctly, when he was called up he wasn't utilized on a scoring line and was playing with some Roberto Duran type linemates. I don't mean fighters but forwards with hands of stone in being offensively challenged. I wonder how he would do centering a line between Stillman and Olesz?

Sprukts is as good as Kreps, he would be our first call-up and might actually make the roster (could help sweep away some cap room). I liked his play and hope he comes back.

I liked what I saw from Sprukts in his time in the NHL. Not to say he impressed me to the point where I thought he was ready to be a regular, but I'd like to see him given another shot. If nothing else, he'd be a fairly solid callup and would certainly help Rochester out.

Something out of that article

Quote:
While most fans are down on Anthony Stewart, Birch said the fourth-year winger has rededicated himself to hockey and is already working out at the Panthers’ facility in suburban Miami.

It's at least reason for optimism.

Let's hope he remembers to actually practice some hockey skills while he's working out.

I can't stand Stewart, but he has his flashes of brilliance. If he could just be consistent he would dominate the AHL. Some shifts he just can't be stopped, then you don't notice him the rest of the game.

conditioning an issue? seems it might be judging by the comments from JM. his player profile still (i think) says "owns terrific work ethic" so i don't get where the criticism of his work ethic comes in.

why can't you stand him?

Sprukts registered 29 points in 53 games for Lukko Rauma (FNL) last season. Pretty good numbers.

Not to mention he was third on the team and took very few penalties.

I hope he's improved his skating, because otherwise he probably won't make the Panthers' roster. If not, he'll be a good first line center for the Amerks.

I agree, I remember a pass he made while he was up as a callup where he passed it through his legs from the boards behind the goal to an open guy in front. It was really something.

I think he might be thinking since we are a bit slim at forward that he might make the squad out of training camp. This would be his best shot so far bacause as of now at least one prospect will make the squad for sure and possibly two if JM trades someone away for a picks!!! Maybe we can trade both Peltonen & Dvorak to Tampa for Jussi Jokinen. That would give us a a winger and Tampa would only be 3 forwards away from putting 2 teams on the ice! Sprukts could make the squad along with Matthias~!

I agree he may be thinking that way, but IMO if he hasn't improved his skating, that's what's going to keep him out of the NHL, at least in making the roster out of camp. He's got some skill, but seriously, he's slower than Stumpel.

LOL. Yeah, maybe we can trade Dvorak to Tampa for another 2nd round pick. We could use another potential blue chip prospect.

Not really.. When you are one of your teams goto guys and only get 29 points. Janne Pesonen the guy Pittsburgh signed from FEL had 78 points in 50+ games last season. And he really aint THAT special either.
