We have Bondra

Bondra for Brooks Laich and a 2nd rounder in 2005. Great pick-up by Muckler, love this trade.. Laich was a few years away and we need Bondra this season to make a run at the Cup.

Bondra's a Senator..........whoa!

SENATORS ACQUIRE PETER BONDRA FROM CAPITALS
Ottawa sends AHLer Brooks Laich and 2005 pick to Washington
OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators announced they have acquired five-time all-star Peter Bondra from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Brooks Laich, playing with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League (AHL), and the Club’s second round pick in the 2005 entry draft.

(From www.ottawasenators.com)

Kinda sorry to see Laich go though. Looked like he had some serious potential!

A VERY good trade by Ottawa. This might change your luck against Buffalo....Bondra has got their number.

Congratulations on getting Bondra, he's a good player who will certainly make your offence a terrifying group to play against.

However, do you think that Laich and a 2nd was too much to pay for a rent-a-player?

I think this was an overpayment personally. I'd rather deal a guy like Kaigorodov than Laich, simply because I think Laich would have given us a fantastic third liner. Maybe I'm just his biggest booster, but I'm dissapointed he was dealt.

I think it was a great idea...I don't think Laich was ever anything special personally. We've got far too many good, young players for him to be able to fit into the lineup. I think it's great...I'm just wondering if Bondra will indeed leave after this year, or stay if he likes it. I know Hossa and him get along well.

Full Lineup should look like:

Schaefer - White - Alfredsson
Bondra - Bonk - Hossa
Smolinski - Spezza - Havlat
Varada - Fisher - Neil

I think that's awesome. Vermette is ready to fill the gap when needed, as is Langfeld.

Bondra is totally 1st line LW material LOL.

IF i were bondra and put on 2nd line behind shaefer i'd leave.

Bondra Spezza Alfie
Schaefer Bonk Hossa
Smoke White Havlat
Varada Fisher Neil

is how i'd have it. maybe swap spezza with bonk.

Certainly should help you get tougher for the playoffs... seriously though, who wants to take a penalty against Ottawa now? 2 pretty good PP units

Thing is, with Hossa and Alfie (and Havlat), there are no first or second or even third lines. Martin effectively rolls three lines at even strength almost equally.

How about this :

Bondra Spezza Alfie
Schaefer Bonk Hossa
Langfeld Smoke Havlat
Varada Fisher Neil

You get more size by changing White to Langfeld...(not a big fan of White..)

I really like your 4rt line, too bad Varada and Fisher are injured now..

Is that a good deal?

That Bondra trade definatly makes your team more skilled and you're top 2 PP lines are far and away the best in the league. The only think I think of, is Bondra what you need another very skilled soft player? I don't know much about Laich but I hear he's a great prospect. I look forward to seeing you guys in the playoffs, hopefully Hossa and some others won't disappear on you and Lalime will pick it up. But like I said, I'm curious to know if Sens fans think that Bondra was a good pick up or just more of what you already have. We all know that Simpson/Ray may be albe to help with Domi/Belak/Marchment but they have nothing for Tucker/Robers/Nolan/McCabe etc.... Thoughts?

thanks

It is a great pick up this is the first time in the teams history that they have traded and got a super star. This has been said with peter it makes a very deadly offence. On the soft issue with ray/simpson that takes care of part of it but there are rumors that they are going after peca.

I think these are the deals that cup contending teams will make. I have little doubt that Laich will develop into an NHL player, but I have no trouble giving him up if it means we get Bondra in our line-up.

I'd rather have given up a guy like Kaigordov, but it probably wasn't an option, as Washington probably had some other teams interested in Bondra, and Ottawa couldn't dictate the price.

I think this deal is comparable to Smolinski's deal from last year, except I think we end up with a better player, and we actually give up less, as I think Gleason was/is the better prospect, and losing a second is not a big deal, IMHO.

I don't think it is overpaying, espically if you keep him. I'd have to say though, Ottawa is the favorite to get out of the East...

Great move by Ottawa. PLease Ottawa fans, don't say this was overpayment. You have to give something to get something, and you certainly got something that could win you the cup.

If it's an overpayment it's only in a slight sense. If you guys win the cup nobody will ever care.

You guys are a scary team.

Well, very smart move - there had been talks about this, was it with Gonchar or Bondra? ah well, we got one - and that's great

re:line ups, I think there's no reason why Bondra should be upset being put on like 2-3rd line, I mean, he's new to our team, and just coz he was BIG on Caps doesn't mean he'll fit just right in, he has to be tested on each line...it's a lose/lose situation though for the lines as someone is bound to be upset by being bumped

Oh well - Stanley cup here we come

*Will he play tomorrow with us against Atlanta?*

If you even watch the Sens, you'd realize that there is no "1st line". White, Schaefer and Alfredsson have incredible chemistry, which is why they've been together the entire year. Hossa and Bondra will likely be playing together as they played on Team Slovakia. Bonk and Hossa play well together. The Spezza-Havlat-Smolinski line has shown a lot of chemistry as well, but Fisher might get inserted in there.

I'd like to think I know a lot more than you on line combos after your remark

I have little doubt that this is going to work out for Ottawa. Bondra is a solid player and has a good attitude, I'm sure he's looking forward to a legimitate shot at the cup.

At the same time, Washington should probably be happy for what they got considering they traded a 36-year old and are not close to a playoff spot. I'm glad it was Laich and not Rachunek that was part of the package. A bit sad to see Laich go since he was someone that could fill the need for a gritty scorer down the road. Now Bochenski's development will be even more interesting to follow. For now, Langfeld seems to be able to fill the role Laich was nursed for.

Would be interesting to see O'Neill traded now just as a comparison of returns. I wonder what would have been needed to add to the Laich + 2nd rounder package to land O'Neill.

Bondra is heading into his option year...the Sens say they will pick up that option so Bondra will be on the team next year (ie: not a rent-a-player)...If there is a next year that is.
