I don't think Ottawa could pry either of those two away, especially for only Vermette and Neil, Chicago could (and should) get a king's ransom for those two. Neil might be what they need, and Vermette is and absolutely fantastic forward who's PK and faceoffs only make him more attractive, but let's be realistic, Seabrook is as close to untouchable as Phaneuf, etc...

I could see Florida being a trade partner for Neil and possibly Vermette(JM likes both of these players) too because of how many Defenseman we have. I know some of you are instantly thinking Bouwmeester!! But, think more along the lines of a Van Ryn, Murphy or possibly Skrastins(Although I would love to keep him).

I could also see Vancouver make a play for Neil because of how dormant they were with free agency. They need more then Demitra to replace Naslund & Morrison and could make a play for Neil & Vermette also IMO!

Yeah, none of those guys intrigue me for Vermette + Neil.

in other news, apparently the easiest way to get kicked out of ottawa after years of being a fan favorite is have your mother die. (neil, redden).
Wow.

It wasn't a proposal for any of those guys for Vermette + Neil. I was merely stating JM would be interested in both of them and out of all our defenseman those 3 are the most likely JM would be willing to trade. Also, JM would probably only like to add 1 forward so it would have to be either Neil or Vermette, not both!

The hawks would be able to throw quite a few young prospects Ottawa's way.

A deal based around Barker, throw in at least one of:

Brouwer
Blunden
Bickell
Bertram
Nate Davis

If Vermette were involved as well I think it could also potentially include Bolland, Skille, Kontiola etc.

*

Mostly just wishful thinking on my part, as IMO Neil would be a really good fit here in Chicago. I generally think Barker is under rated by hawk fans, he's a damn fine D prospect who just had to work on consistency. But I know the organization if VERY high on Nik Hjalmarsson, and he may make Barker expendable.

Complex, planned **** disturbing...

There'd probably be a scrum everytime this line would be out there.

Yeah, I don't even know if he'd be more fitting than Enstrom and that's nothing against Lethonen.
They'd make a pretty good trade partner.
I'm gonna guess that Atlanta reallly needs a skilled center still right?

Where do we go from Vermette + Neil in acquiring either of those blue chippers.
Please don't flame, I can dream!!!

That's great to hear!
Both are jam packed with young, skilled defenseman. It'd be ideal to swing Vermette and Neil for any deal surrounding any of them, really.

How can you live with yourself being a Ducks fan?
Your nickname, I'm intrigued why you picked it? What do you consider MOENing exactly and why does it represent you so much to be your nickname?
Does it have anything todo with how contradictory you are to the brand of hockey you support?

Ironic, but not cool.

However, suggesting the Redden has a vagina? Awesome. I love it. Seriously, get that man some vagisil (I hear Carey Price has tons of it)

The Sens would be crazy to trade Neil. Despite his countless stupid penalties, he plays at 100% all the time (unless he rushes back too soon from a knee injury), he's tough as nails and always willing to stick up for his teammates. If any trade happens, it certainly won't be within their division, or possibly conference.

I'd rather it was something like Neil for Hendry and Brouwer/Blunden/Bickell but i don't know if that would get it done as Ottawa seem to be looking for a puck moving d-man and that isn't Hendry's game. Vermette is a good player but i really like Barker and i think it would be a mistake to trade him this early, possibly a Coburnesque mistake.

Maybe Chris Neil+5th rounder to Anaheim for Mathieu Schneider? I think it is not a bad deal for both sides.

Why get rid of Neil? He usualy leads or is at the top of the league in hits. Is one of hardest hitters in the NHL, can contribute about 10 goals and skate, is only in his mid 20's and still very young with upside to improve his overall game. Isn't overpaid.

Ottawa GM would be an idiot to trade him, why just cuz he got a 33 year old agitator in Ruutu? You need toughness physicality and grit specialy among guys that can play regularly over 10 mins a night plus protect star players. Ruutu can't protect Spezza, Heatley, Alfredsson. Neil can. Reason they got rid of McGrattan was cuz he couldn't play, skate well enough, hit on be an on ice factor other than throw his fist the odd game where he palys a total of 1 min a change. Neil is a physical force, agitator, tough guy/enforcer, and an NHL 3rd liner all in one which is very valuable IMO.

Few legit enforcers can take a regular shift in the NHL and contribute outside of him and Laraque, and Neil is better player hockey wise and hitting ability. A guy like Neil with his physicality, young age, game and personality who also can enforce is very valuable. Usualy enforces can'y play much, let alone one that has been a consistent 3rd liner on a cup contending team for years now.

I would deal Vermette and get a good return for him than deal a personality like Neil and not get as much back.

First Darcy Tucker out of the NE and now maybe Neil too?

Man, if it wasn't for Ruutu coming in, I'd have a reason to cheer and not fear for my teams' safety.

Both would be good fits in Vancouver.

Neil and Vermette for Bieska and Pyatt

Yes.
Are you saying that he doesn't take on the heavyweights or that he doesn't win?

I seriously hope this isnt true. A guy that can fight the heavyweights and take a regular shift is way too valuable. Add to this the leadership he seems to have with some of the guys (especially a guy like Bass), and the potential of a bottom 6 featuring him, Ruutu and Bass, and it really would piss me off to see him go.

The fact that there is THIS much interest in him should show we cant get rid of him unless the package is amazing

That's just a matter of role changes since McGrattan joined the team. His card was longer and bigger before the lockout and may become so again this season.

That was McGrattan's job since he got here.

Neil was a legit enforcer before Gratts joined the team. It remains to be determined if Neil returns to his roots now that Gratts is gone.

As a Pens fan, I remember him fighting Dan Focht type players back then. Not to say he's never fought the heavyweights, but I don't know that once or twice makes you a heavyweight.

Barnaby would go with the heavyweights (and get killed) too. But I wouldn't call him legit.

Edit to add-- Carcillo will fight heavyweights too, now. Not an enforcer though. I agree McGrattan is/was an enforcer.
