What would it take from the Oilers to get Neil?

Do you guys need cap space? D-man or picks?

Edit to add-- Carcillo will fight heavyweights too, now. Not an enforcer though. I agree McGrattan is/was an enforcer.
Pittsburgh lacking a legit enforcer for so many years does not make Neil less of a fighter.

Odkick, Simon, Mair, Peat, Matt Johnson, B.Witt, Boulerice, Odgers, Domi, Dwyer, Shelley, Boulton, Dingman, Doull, N.Perrott, Oliwa, Boughner, O'Donnell, Laus, Belak, Fedoruk, H.Gill, Commodore, Downey, Brookbank, Brashear, Gaustad,...

Lots of guys in that list that are heavyweights and are a heck of a lot bigger than Chris Neil.

Mostly just wishful thinking on my part, as IMO Neil would be a really good fit here in Chicago. I generally think Barker is under rated by hawk fans, he's a damn fine D prospect who just had to work on consistency. But I know the organization if VERY high on Nik Hjalmarsson, and he may make Barker expendable.

Neil is a UFA next summer. As a rebuilding team, the ChiHawks will need to keep that in mind.

I would think before he made the trade Tallon would talk to Neil and try to ascertain whether he would be willing to resign in Chicago.

Chicago is not in rebuilding mode. The want to win now. Making the playoffs is a must, and I think they at least want to be competitive once they get there.

edit-- oh, and if Dale is talking with Murray he is almost certainly inquiring about Vermette. Back when Arnason was traded, everyone in Chicago was told that Tallon was trying to sweeten the pot to get Vermette instead of Bochenski. There's no question that Tallon likes him alot. Not saying its gonna happen, but I'm sure it is or was discussed.

I would be sad to see Neil go, but Barker surely would make it easier

Wow, that's severe overpayment for taking on a massive contract nobody wants. Talk about ridiculous.

What a joke. Khabby is a ridiculous contract you're trying to dump, that hurts his value severely. No way Chicago gets all that for him and Barker. And if Ottawa is moving a defenseman in the trade then it defeats the whole purpose because they're looking to add one.

Even as a Chicago fan and also a fan of Barker that is massive overpayment.

Chris Neil to Detroit for Brett Lebda or Derek Meech

Both are low salary, puck moving D-men with good potential. Detroit desperately needs an enforcer that can actually play hockey (sorry Mac, Downey..).

Or...

Lilja/Lebda/Meech and Samuelson for Neil and a pick (2nd probably).

Wings get an agitator they need... Sens up their Offense production from Neil plus add a dman that Detroit has too many of.

That would have to be a mid-round pick, otherwise it's overpayment. I love what Neil brings but he's an impending ufa. Anyways, this likely wouldn't happen because it won't cut enough salary for us, only about a mil. So unless PK is willing to spend a little more to land a beast like Neil it's not happening.
