Waiting for the Montreal fans coming in and telling us that Canucks cannot afford Sundin anymore so he is going to Montreal....

Former Hobey Baker Award winner...the Canucks were pursuing Krog several years ago, along with Steve Kariya. Krog signed on with Anaheim instead...

I don't know about this signing. 1 way deal for him? Where is Gillis going with this? Definitely no room for both him and Wellwood...

If it's 1-way, why Krog? If we're going to trade Pyatt/Pettinger for picks to lower the cap, why not replace them with Hansen? He is young, skates like the wind, good defensively and has some offensive upside.

This move boggles my mind.

Actually this is most likely a cost-saving move to fit the Sundin contract. As it stands now if we sign Sundin we're smack up against the cap, or slightly over. Krog most likely signed at or near league minimum. Pettinger and Pyatt both make over $1 million so if one of them is moved in favour of Krog in the bottom six, we'll save a bunch of room. Around $600,000 if it's Pettinger, and nearly $900,000 if Pyatt is moved. If you can also ditch Cowan, suddenly the Canucks can sign the Sundin contract, and remain over $1 million below the cap going into the season.

I don't mind it as Krog is a fairly solid bottom six player at around league minimum, and we need the space if we're going to flesh out our top six. Just don't have room for bottom six players making over $1 million per season.

He's an older Ryan Shannon. He was clutch for the Ducks back in 03 but disappeared after that. Good luck to him.

first singing Demitra is a sign Sundin is coming and now this? Sure
I guess its about as likely as Montreal freeing up the center position by trading away Corey Locke so they can fit Sundin. as much as it is fun to speculate it is unlikely to be related.

Not necessarily related to Sundin, but I think you can say with certainty (assuming this is a one-way deal) that it's a cost saving move to put more salary cap space into the top six as opposed to the bottom six. If we want to add any signficant top six salary at this point, and stay lets say $1 million below the salary cap, we'll have to cut the luxury of having $1 million per year 3rd and 4th line wingers. I happen to be a proponent of the fact you can afford to give out $1 million + per year contracts to bottom six centres, but that the wingers should be comfortably under the $1 million mark. Ideally they should be rookies from within the organization, but obviously Gillis doesn't have as much faith in our rookie pipe-line as some posters around here.

Sundin was just an example of why the Canucks would add a cheaper, but effective bottom six player because you can't have both Pyatt and Pettinger making over $1 million dollars in a cap system if both are slotted in as 3rd / 4th line wingers.

Krog looks absolutely lost when he plays on NHL ice. I hope the Nucks have a spot for him.

Reports are its a one-way deal.

Either a higher paid player is being traded (ex: Pyatt or Pettinger) for breathing room to sign Sundin and have cap space

or

Sundin has told Vancouver he's signing with another team.

My guess... Vancouver lost out to Sundin and Gillis is taking counter-measures. If Gillis wanted to save cap space, why not use rookies Hansen or Grabner?

Maybe Krog has got a real shot. He's not huge but is not a shrimp (like, say, Shannon) and had a monster season in the AHL (unlike, say, all of our prospects).

Signing a "career" minor leaguer could be an example of lateral thinking...or something.

Welp, just in case, I think we're hanging onto our picks.

So you're saying Gillis has lost out on Sundin, and gets Krog to 'replace' him...while still having 10 million to play with.

That doesn't add up, and you're wrong.

I don't think signing Jason Krog gives any indication as to whether Sundin is signing or not.

This makes much, much more sense if it is a two-way deal.

WOW Care to explain this post???? The crown jewel of the AHL???? I guess most have forgotten who won the Calder Cup this year and who played on that team. I think you'll find that the "Crown Jewel" of the AHL as far as teams go is in Chicago. Two Calder Cups in 6 years. Ask anyone who has played there.

As a Thrashers and Wolves fan, I am 90% sure that Krog is not an NHL player. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much talent you have, it just doesn't translate to the speed of the game at its highest level. Good luck to him and the Nucks, here's to hoping the 3rd (or maybe 4th, but I don't count the Rangers) times the charm for him!

Krog played with the Rangers a season or two ago. I don't remember anything about his game. And I guess that in itself says a lot.

Who else is he going to sign? Nagy?

He has his "category" players that he wants. He's probably going to give rookies such as Hansen or Grabner a chance rather than filling up the cap space. If I'm not wrong, I believe Gillis has stated that his back-up plan for Sundin is rookies, which indicates he doesn't desire to fill up cap-space for the sake of it.

It's not that Krog replaces Sundin, depth chart shifts up. Kesler would become the 2nd line center. It's just a guess.

i really hope it isn't a one way deal, if it is, it's slightly baffling.

Can't figure out what this one's about. Seems pretty pointless for the time being.

He did say he wanted to give some kids a shot but he also said that he'd be adding two players to the top-6 (before Demitra was signed).

And just how many Wolves have affected the Thrashers...ever? Comprehension ftw.
