Should we trade for JayBo?

So this guy has filed for arbitration and would be a UFA next year. Should we make an offer for him?

Imo the deal would have to start with Komi.

I don't think they'd want another pending UFA, they'd probably want Mcdonagh, 1st round pick and a roster player like Higgins

I think JayBo could be one of the missing pieces to that Stanley Cup. He's a top 2 guy who can put up solid numbers. Better puck distributor than anyone on this team not named Markov and has a slick skating stride.

Actually we don't KNOW that. We can assume it, but you can never know. Even Mike at this point does not KNOW he will sign here especially not long term.

I'm pretty sure that if the Isles decided to go Wang on Komisarek and offer him a 10 year 50 million dollar deal...he'd go for that.

Jay just wants to be on a winning team for a change. His medicine hat tigers were awful, and his panthers have never made the playoffs while he was with them. I think his father acts as his agent still, so i'm sure his father (a coach at the University of Alberta) is going to reiterate the point of winning.

Either way, Montreal with Bouwmeester, without taking away a significant portion of the current on-ice team, would have to be considered a major pre-season Cup contender.

Well I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the chances of Komisarek resigning with the Habs long term is better than Jay Bouwmeester signing long term. I wouldn't be surprised if Gainey resigns Komisarek midway during the season like he did Koivu the other year, whereas a guy like Jay would probably go right down to the July 1st wire, and then cash in. How much do you think Jay will want? I can picture a scenario where he commands upwards of $6m and won't feel bad if he leaves us behind to get it. Mikey Komisarek on the other hand? I wouldn't feel he'd do that. Call me crazy but guys that come up through the Habs system seem to have alot of respect for the team and wouldn't base their worth on what other kinds of ludicrous contracts there are in the NHL

if its komi for jbo straight up...then i'm sorry komi, but i doubt Gainey even waits a second to accept.

but jbo would be worth a lot more then Komi.

Jay Boychuk? He only played one season in the OPJHL in 1993.

JayBo is worth every bit of 6m. He's got Norris written all over him. If we could trade for JayBo, I think a 5 year 30m$ deal would be quite fair. He needs to be in a hockey city.

Jokinen was worth alot more than what he was traded for... Florida are getting the shaft recently.

I proposed Komi + Maxwell + 3rd on their board...which imo we could fool Martin into doing.

If we can make a pitch for him, go for it, he will be among the elite very soon, he is already knocking at the door.

And I would start negotiations without even mentionning Komisarek. Florida has been brutal in trades lately, so I would ask them what they want first and see. What if they ask for O'Byrne, Subban and Lapierre for J-Bo and a pick? You never know!

Then, we sign him for 5-6 years and see!!

To put it mildly, I disagree.

I'm not too sure about Bouwmeester. I'm not convinced that he isn't still living off of his junior hype and undeniable upside when people talk about him as such an impact player. There's no question he's already a good defenceman, a bona fide top 4 on any team, but my impression of him is closer to Bret Hedican in his prime than a franchise defenceman in the Pronger, Niedermayer category.

I just don't think this guy will go for the price that I would want to pay for him. If he's being shopped as a top 2, franchise-ish defenceman, then I'm not interested at all. If he's available for some prospects who aren't in our consensus top 5, then sure, go get 'er done Bob.

You sir just expressed the exact same opinion as mine.

Only problem is, look at the team he plays for.. Who knows what kind of numbers he could potentially put up if he played for us, or Detroit or a contender for that matter.

Also take into account the fact that he is still only 24 years old, he has been in the league for a while but at 24, he is far from having peaked.
