He will have next year 20% of this year salary cap.

Assuming a 10% progression of the salary cap:
  • 2009-10: 58M
  • 2010-11: 64M
  • 2011-12: 70M
  • 2012-13: 77M
  • 2013-14: 84M
  • 2014-15: 93M
  • 2015:16: 102M
So at 36, he now has 10% of the team.
Following 4 years: 8.5M, 4M, 1.5M, 1M.
So, IF I am not wrong at 38 (almost Sundin age), he is going to make 1.5M...

Numbers that seems big can change over time.

In 2014-15, Sid the kid will renegociateas a UFA. 20% of 93M is 18M per year.Following year, Malkin will renegociate at 20M...
Everybody will say: Vinny is the deal...

Good deal for Tampa Bay
Actually Sid will become UFA on July 1st 2013 and Geny on July 1st 2014.

Although, checking this, I always thought Sid was due for July 1st 2012... must've been mistaken.

Not too sure the cap will keep rising like this every year. It might for next season as a new and better TV contract is expected and financial experts say that the Canadian dollar will keep rising and attendance in the NHL have risen each year since the new CBA, but at some point yhe revenues will stabilize and not shoot-up so much.

Does the contract have a NTC?

The cap will never rise to over 80 millions+ again.

There's a reason why there was a lockout.

The future is bright with no first pick in 09 and 10. With thei new free agent and basically no future beside Stamkos and a bit in net they'll be amazing soon enough... No.

I dont blame him for signing the contract, but saying the future is bright in TB is wrong. Maybe thats why he signed longt erm maybe in his last year ater racking up first pick overall in 11, 12, 13 and 14 they gonna have a decent enough team to make the playoff. Who knows.

This is why Bolts should trade good assets to get, at least, good picks, because, besides Stamkos, future looks rather shaky in T-Bay.

I don't think that's right. We have it down that we have two firsts (and two seconds) next year. I know we have at least one first, we got one from San Jose in the Boyle trade.

Vinny has said he wants to play in Tampa, wants to retire in Tampa, and pretty much has been given a job in the Tampa Organization once he retires. He loves the area. He doesn't want to play in Montreal. I guess some people are just too close minded to understand that, even if Vinny himself were to tell you right to your face.

you guys are nuts, the cap isn't gonna keep rising at the pace it's been rising these last few years. I'm pretty sure it will stay around 58-62 mill for the next 3-4 years

It's always been dead. Just some of the dreamers kept beating it like it was still alive.

now that the stupid Vinny free agent talk is dead only the stupid vinny trade talk left to die on the vine.

I'd better call Customs and Immigration, it seems that our Sarcasm/Irony meters are being held up when shipped south.

Tampa bay did a good deal. He will be 35 at that time.
He will also be in the top-10 players and top-4 center for all these years. Injuries are covered by insurances.

Would you pay 5.1M to 8.7M for let's say Sundin at 35?

Here comes the kicker: he will have 8.5M at 36, 4M at 37 (Sundin age), 1.5M at 38 and 1M at 39...

Tampa bay did a good deal. Lecavalier would have Easily got more than 10M as a UFA next year.

If the owners don't want to see big contracts like that, they just have to decrease their revenues...
It means free tickets?

No. He'll want to be traded to MTL everytime TB loses a game.

From Vincent's brother (on CKAC):

"Vinnie really considered Montreal before he took his decision to sign long term in Tampa"

Seems that we came close second...

There's a reason why there was a lockout.
And that reason was to link expenses of player salaries to a % of revenues.

If revenues go up, the cap goes up too. If the league makes 4 billion in total revenues (can be expected in or before 20 years or so) this means the cap would be close to 74 million... And present revenues are close to 3 billion total and they were at 2 billion the year before the lockout, so it's not a stretch to think the cap could reach 80 million one day, but I do agree that it's not likely to be in less than 10 years like the estimates on this thread.

Well no one told me that!

On the bright side, there should now be some Rags/Isles/Devils fans with a very finally developed sense of sarcasm...

The rest is all in the same elegant motion...

About the free ticket, they just need to setup a channel to sell the tickets...
You set up a company "Actme" owned by John.
John owns hockey team A.
Team A sells best ticket at regular price to company "Actme" and company "Actme" resells the ticket with 200% markup.
There you go.... You just have put profits outside the salary cap...

But this is a fiction sccenario... Or it it?
That's easily verifiable if they would try and do such a thing, they would have to go through more hoops and twists to hide such massive revenues

unrelated but a sarcastic example, my oldest taught Chad Kilger's kids in her art camp last week. When he picked them up, she allegedlley told him that normally she wouldn't have been as kind to ex Leafs, but she wasn't fore warned. 'My Grampa and father would never allow this, but I remembered that you played in Mtl so I cut them a break'.

Apparently Kilger laughed but had that 'Is she serious' look of horror on his face.

I wonder what she would do with Darcy Tucker's children?

Does he have any, that's the big question.

Yeah, he has a bunch, if I recall correctly. She might have charged them more though.

Just a heads up.

Sport 30 will have a exclusive interview with Lecavalier in their 6 PM show tonight with Renaud Lavoie.
