Let me educate you on the Gilmour era in the habs. There is no one that can fill his shoes right now, ABSILUTELY NO ONE IN HELL. Gilmour was already a near hall of famer before he came to the Canadiens., and he defended this team as far as breaking his own salt and bones. Why couldn't he sign with us this year instead of Sundin. We are after the wrong Torntois mes amis.

The only thing i like with Shanahan is adding the RH shot, but Lang brings that too.
Lang is a lazy ****ing loser that is soft and does not do what it takes to win. Shanahan will put his body on the line, fight and provides leadership. It's not even comparable, I don't care if he's not a centre, he's the type of player the Habs need.

Plus people complain about Shanny's numbers. He was 2nd in goals on the Rags with 23, 2 less than Jagr and Drury while playing 9 less games than both. He's not washed up, he played on a pretty bad offensive team.

Glad to see that I'm not the only one who see it that way...

would lovvvvvvvve shany with the has for 3 reasons :
1-could sign for 2-2.5M$ for one season
2-would keep nice room under the cap for later addition (maybe a 4th d-men)
3-would give MTL a warrior (old but still...), a leader who's willing to pay the price and be a positive influence for all teamates.
4-would give us 3 solid offensive lines
akost-plek-kovy
tanguay-koivu-shany
latendresse-higgins and skost
begin-lapierre-laraque

personnally, if higgins or skost could play center, I would prefer Shany over Sundin especially for the 2 1st reasons

and please, stop telling that Lang is an option...

Sundin is still my plan A if he makes a decision before the season begins but if not, I agree with you except for the line combos. I would prefer to see Shanny on the third line with Latendresse or Higgins playing with Koivu and Tanguay.

No room for shanny, because I don't see S.Kost or Higgins as center.

hasn't Gainey stated on a few seperate occasions that he is NOT interested in Shanahan and that they were close to making a deal a couple of years ago? I just dont see a need for him right now...

The only way I see Shanny in Montreal is if we trade a winger on our top 3 lines first.

We are already crowded with forwards, and it's not like he would be a replacement of Sundin either. If he'd be ready to sign fairly cheap, he could improve an already bombing PP and play a limited role on a 3rd line. Then we keep some cap space to sign Sundin on jan 1st.

Is this a replay?

Oh wait it's in real time.

Ek didn't know what to post today, so why not a non-sense habs rumor....

Like you all said guys, Gainey told the press he wasn't interested in bringing him.

Point, set and match.

Why isn't he? He played the role of a #1 center at times with the hawks, but that's not his role anymore....despite having a good hockey IQ.

its just like playing komisarek as a winger and ******** on him because he doesn't score.

lang is a respectable player, defensively responsible (great +/-), with an eye for goal (since 98/99 season, he has only 2 seasons bellow 20 goals (18 and 19) ) and simple passing skills....

See, I don't mind when people give their opinion or preferences when they differ from mine, but why do you have to **** on lang? He would be a perfect 3rd line center, there is not a doubt it in my mind.

In my mind, a : higgins-lang-s.kos line outplays a: latendresse-higgins-s.kos line ...

besides, hes one of kovys old friends....

I don't care about the friendship with Kovalev, but I still like the Lang idea because he fills in a few holes that we need:
  • He's big
  • He's a right handed shot
  • Good on face-offs
  • Could fill in on the top two lines if something was to happen to Koivu or Plekanec
  • His contract is over at the end of the season. If he doesn't pan out, bye-bye

And with Chicago being over the cap, they may consider trading him.

I seem to recall gainey saying that he's not interested in shanny earlier this off season. Bob has given us no reason not to take his words at face value during his tenure, so as much as shanny might want to play here, his chance expired about 2 years ago.
