If this deal goes down, Hale or Parise comes back, bank on it.

Everyone knows that Bondra and Jagr were completely different scenarios.

"NEVER" as in never in his career or "NEVER" as in not a chance for Gonchar?

He shouldn't be.

The Caps are neck-deep in 5-6th defensemen, and 3rd liners.

I'm basing predictions on what I've heard from McPhee.

The Caps aren't in the financial trouble PIT is in.

Not with Gonchar he wont.......He should be able to get some depth with other moves, but Gonchar is his one big bargaining chip.....Dont expect him top be traded for "depth"......

Blake is the obvious example, offhand, given the similarities between he and Gonchar... and the Caps are not even asking for roster players, just very good prospects and/or picks.

Mcphee on the radio this morning

"Any deals other than Jagr, will be hockey deals".

There are no more giveaways in the Caps lotto.

Bure landed Jovo-cop if I'm not mistaken.

Jagr was a salary dump, similar to Pittsburgh.
Bondra was an upcoming UFA, and has a $1 M buyout or a $4.5 M option. Half salary dump half UFA rental trade.
Gonchar is leading defencemen in scoring and is a year away from UFA. He's going to cost a pretty penny to get. Heard on the radio that McPhee is asking Toronto for Antropov, Colaicovo(sorry if I butchered the spelling) and a high draft pick. However, that's an insane asking price and he probably won't get it.
Parise will likely not be traded, he's just too good up front for the Devils to give up. Hale + prospect maybe? Washington is rebuilding so they want young, developing and cheap. Not in the financial trouble Pittsburgh is in so they won't necessarily accept borderline NHLers with unclear upsides.

Sounds right. I would drop Antropov from the Toronto one, myself. All I really want to see back is a blue chipper on defense. I'd like to come out of this summer with a core of Eminger, Barker and a blue-chip blueliner from the Gonchar trade to build around.

One of Colaiacovo or Hale would be great. I suppose that if the market dictates one of Hainsey or Martin then that's the way it is, but I will be moderately disappointed, because Gonchar is legitimately worth a young stud blueliner.

There are Caps assets that had to be given away, Jagr being the prime example, and Lang might not have great value for a league-leading scorer either... but Gonchar has some serious value around the league.

Well considering what the Caps were willing to take for Jagr and Bondra they have plenty. Hockey Futures just rated our prospects fourth overall, were stocked.

And everybody can forget about Parise going in any deal in the near future, he's going to be a Devils for some years now.

I agree, and I also think Lou is serious about adding a top defenseman. It's his M.O. in the past. I'd love Hale, and grudgingly accept Martin, though the pick accompanying him would have to be high. Parise is untouchable, and with good reason. Finding prospect assets out of NJ's stable would not be hard, however.

Given Washington's surplus of goalies, Ari Ahonen would not work. I really think it would have to center on one of Hale or Martin.

ESPN Insider says the Devils are trying to get Gonchar, however their source is from the Bergen Record. Says they want Jeff O'Neill too...
