Braces

Has anybody here ever had braces? If so, how long did you have them for?

I've had mine for 1.5 years and finally got them off this morning. After they took them off the sanding was a pain. Right now they're a bit red, so how long will it take to make them tight to the tooth and normal colour?

I have to hold some kind of **** up record for braces. Had them for nearly 7 years, got them the summer before my freshman year of HS. I had them all through HS and my first three years of College. I finally got them off in March of this year.

I had braces for three weeks to hold my front teeth in when I knocked them out playing ball as a kid.

I was 12 and knocked out four of them.

I had mine for about 5 years which is pretty damn long too. One of the reasosn why I had them so long was because a couple of years in, I got a hockey stick to the face and my teeth got all misplaced. I would have actually lost a couple if I didn't have braces. After 5 years, I decided that I had enough and I didn't feel like wearing them anymore so I told the dentist to take them off. It's been two years now and my teeth have moved a bit since then, but nothing big.

I had braces from third grade through my junior year of high school. I had everything, headgear (nerd alert!), the RPE thing, braces, a different type of headgear (nerd alert!), I still have something in my mouth on my bottom front teeth glued to the back of them to keep them in place.

The teeth look good now, but man, what a painful bunch of years that was.

So you have a permanent retainer?

I had them for a few years, but what a relief it was when they came off. It took a few days to get used not having them rubbing on your inner lip.

Ever try getting into a bar underage when the guy on your fake doesn't have braces. That's fun... Good news is every other person that I would see that had braces (like 3 people over the course of my wearing them) shared a sympathy drink with me. Its even worse, after becoming of age, trying to convince a bouncer that you really are 21 and still have braces. Nothing like a 250lb meathead laughing at you whilst 12 sheets to the wind.

What do you mean your teeth are red? I've never heard of that happening...

I had my braces for 2 1/2 years, and after the first month or so, I never even noticed them. Elastics are a ****ing ***** though. Not in terms of hurting, just you can't open your ****ing mouth!!

I had them for almost 2 years in high school. Didn't mind them much until I had to use the finishing elastics. Could only open your mouth a few cm's.

I had braces for 2 years. When I went for my first appointment, my orthodontist said that I would only need to have them for 6 months. 24 months later he took them off.
I still have the permanent retainer attached to my bottom teeth. My orthodontist cemented it to 4 of my teeth, so, it will be such a pain in the arse to take it out that I think I'll leave it in there forever.

I've never heard of teeth going red though. That's messed up.

Before I got braces, they took two baby teeth out on the bottom because there weren't any adult teeth waiting beneath them. I get braces and they keep the gaps there for reasons that make sense to them. I get the braces off and they tell me to wear a retainer to keep the gaps open. I assume they have some master plan. Their master plan is bridges, which I'm not too fond of (hey! we took two teeth out and now we want you to get fake teeth! money please!), so I stopped wearing my retainer at night. Either the gaps close and I'm happy (hey, maybe that'll make some room in the back for my yet to come in wisdom teeth) or they don't and I have not-noticable gaps near the back of my mouth. I don't really care, but that's my braces story.

Had braces for about 2 years to fix my overbite. Didn't really mind them that much. Elastics were a pain though.
