Higgins upcoming contract negotiations

Does anyone think the Horcoff contract extension will raise Higgins asking price next year?? It seems to me Horcoff was overpaid in this contract. If Higgins has a good season could he be looking at 4 million per?? I hate the Oilers!!

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/stor...f.html?ref=rss

Contracts like these will tear the Habs apart next year with all the FA's coming up.

No, I don't think Higgins helped carry an underdog team within one game of the cup. I don't think Higgins has put up any seasons near Horcoff's top seasons.

And I love Higgins.

Calm down

Andrei was not affected by any contracts given during last year or this year, i have no reason to think Bob will give long term since he never did appart from Markov's case (because the reason of Horcoff's contract is duration).

He will resign him to a 3 years deal with reasonable terms I am pretty sure

Edit:change thread title its kinda confusing because he probably negotiate until next year

Horcoff:

53 games - 50 points (0.94 PPG)
79 games - 73 points (0.92 PPG)
(postseason) 24 games - 19 points (0.80 PPG)

Higgins:

82 games - 52 points (0.62 PPG)
61 games - 38 points (0.62 PPG)
(postseason) 12 games - 5 points (0.41 PPG)

Not sure where you're coming from....

Besides the Habs seem to have a knack for signing guys for less than market value

If Horcoff is making 5.5 mill per I'd imagine Higgins agent would use this contract as a benchmark. I did qualify by saying 4 million and if he had a good season this year.

Hopefully he signs for 2.5 mill and everybody would be happy.

Not gonna happen at 2.5 mill.....

I think Malone is a better benchmark than Horcoff.... Higgins will get 4mill/year... and I'm okay with that....

We have some decisions to make, but getting Pleks, Higgins, and Komi under contract next year is critical.

10M$ for 3 years would be a decent amount and term... and will see at the end of those 3 years

I like Higgy, but I was not impressed with him last year. I hope he is traded for someone that can actually score.

Higgins deserves a little bit more than what A Kost. got...
So I'm looking at a 3 year x 11 million

They'll see what kind of season he has. That'll be enough data to indicate what they have. I doubt either side wants to jump into anything until they see where he fits on the scale.

This question demonstrates a lack of comprehension towards the basics of the time-space continuum.

I hope Latendresse won't ask a $4M/year contract because he sucks.

EDIT: Iwishihadacup beat me to it. Damn you!

IMO, last season was an off-season for Higgins.

Now what really are the expectations for this guy???

I see him as a well rounded winger who in his prime(not there yet) will score 30-35 goals & 40-45 assists, with huge leadership abilities.

IMO, a very damn fine winger & leader for any team.

I can see why some want to trade him out of Montreal then, eh???

A Higgins Thread ?!?!

Seriously, Horcoff >>>>>> Higgins ...and it's not even close right now...

Anything more than 3,5 Millions/year for Higgins is huge overpayment.

Like Astroboy said, if Gainey has a good offer for Higgins, he should make the move...

Talking of negotiations , Gainey said during the winter that he wanted to extend the contract of Plekanec , but since that , i never read anything about negotiations betwen our top center and the Habs .

I think that they had to wait the first of july . Someone has info about it ?

Higgins I'd like to see signed for 4 years 15 mil...but I think he may cost closer to 17.

Maybe try and frontload it to make it more attractive...5 mil then 4.5 mil 3.5 mil then 3 mil. 4 mil cap hit.

I think he'll be dealt.

Although the fans are ready to move on, the team still loves Koivu as captain. After re-upping Kovalev (unfortunately), Komi, and Plekanec, I think Higgy will be the off man out.

If we're lucky. If we're not, we could lose two or three of those guys next off-season.

This is why Sundin scares me.
