Did anybody say "Toews scores a bunch of points, so he's the most deserving captain"? Please, show me who you're arguing with here.

Who's a better option on the Hawks? Toews is the best combination of skill, grit, and work ethic that the team has, and he was centered out by the coach and the team's vets as the right man for the job.

But no, the Hawks brain trust should've ignored what the team, coach, and fans wanted. Oh wait, Bill Wirtz isn't running the show anymore.
The reason we did not have a C last season was because it was being saved for Toews. Lapointe was the defacto captain, but we knew he wasn't going to be around for much longer so it was never official.

After Augroin tarnished the C in Chicago they really wanted to make sure they made the right choice -- and they did.

Yep, I know. And I agree wholeheartedly.

Is there anything Toews could do next season to prove that it was the right decision in your eyes?

I'd wager not.

Judging by some posts in this thread, if he accomplishes anything short of a Phil Esposito rally speech from '72 and a Jean Beliveau playoff performance culminating in a Cup win, he's a failure as a leader.

They better close up shop now then.
Experience should be the most important factor when deciding who is going to be the captain. Campbell seems to be the best choice, as he was a captain before in Buffalo. Toews obviously lacks this. Therefore, should not be a captain, no matter how charismatic or how leader-like he is.

Yeah, that whole one month of a rotating captaincy in 2007 really gives Campbell the inside track.

If he doesn't work out, maybe the Hawks could trade for Lydman or Spacek to fill the leadership void, since they were captains for a month too.

Why not just make Sharp the captain? Then slide Towes into the Captain role after a couple yrs.

Because Sharp said that he thought Toews should be the captain?

Is there another player who was named team captain with less NHL regular season games played than Toews?

Towes: 64 GP
Lecavalier: 162 GP
Crosby: 180 GP
Yzerman: 211 GP
Thornton: 355 GP

To be named captain after only 64 total regular season games played at the NHL level is really saying a lot about what management and teammates think of Toews' character.
