Rampage, what have you done...

Extremely disappointing to see a guy who seemed like a good guy, a smart guy, and responsible guy go and do something so monumentally stupid.

Mental health issue or not, this is going to impact his career for a long time. Aside from being terrible for Rampage, his family, and all the people who he apparently almost ran over, this is also terrible for UFC and for MMA fans.

"I'm a butthole" confession #1: when I read about this, my first thought was "I guess Rampage isn't just a clever nickname now."

"I'm a butthole" confession #2: I also found myself thinking "car chase? gee, I hope he didn't wreck his Audi R8..."

Quote:
“When you’re in the UFC you’re part of this family and we really do care about most of the guys in this organization,” White told the Herald Wednesday night in his first public comments since Jackson’s arrest. “I’m not going to tell you I love every guy in here that fights for me, but most of these guys that fight for us, I truly do care about these guys inside and outside the Octagon. When bad (expletive) happens, you better believe I’m showing up.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/o...rts&position=3

Anybody else find it hilarious that while as he's explaining why he's going to stand behind Rampage, Dana has to point out that there's guys with the company that he just doesn't like? (Kalib Starnes and Tito Ortiz are out of UFC, right? Who else?)

my picks:

Anderson Silva vs. James Irvin:

- Irvin has a shot. We've never really seen Anderson rocked by a punch yet in the UFC, and if Irvin manages to connect with one, it could be over for the spider. But that probably won't happen so: Anderson TKO, round 2.

Brandon Vera vs. Andy Reese:
- Never seen Reese fight, so Vera UD.

Hermes Franca vs. Frankie Edgar:

- Franca is too big for Edgar, and will do basically the same thing that Gray Maynard did to Edgar. Franca UD

Jake O'Brien vs. Cain Velasquez:

- too close to call. O'Brien was undefeated before losing to AA. Velasquez looked amazing in his last fight. Velasquez TKO 2nd round.

Kevin Burns vs. Anthony Johnson:

- Another tough one. The crazy striker vs. the blue belt (who subbed a black belt in Carniero). I'll go with Burns. I think if Johnson can keep off the ground and keep it standing, he'll win. But i think once Burns can get him down, he'll sub him. Burns SUB 2nd

Jesse Taylor vs. CB Dollaway:

- This one is going to be boring. I'll say Taylor by UD with a long lay and pray session for 3 rounds.

Irvin is (theoretically) 20 pounds bigger than Anderson's previous victims and (theoretically) stronger as well. He should be a lot harder for Anderson to control in the clinch and might be able to keep his head up in those situations. Then again, I don't think Silva needs the clinch to knock somebody out. From what I recall, Irvin's flash knockouts have been against straight-ahead brawler types, and I think Silva is too quick and agile to get bombed the same way.

Patrick Cote better get this one on TiVo...

Yeah. Could be ugly. Hopefully CB can avoid being taken down. Standup is one area where CB should have a big advantage, and if he can keep it standing up it could save this from being terrible.

hah, not really. Randy used a leg kick to set up a pig right hand that put Tim on his back. other than that, Randy didn't win the stand up game, he won the fight by wrestling Tim.

IMO, if this fight stays on the feet, it will resemble the Sylvia/Nog fight.

Welp I'm off to the Pond to take in a full day's worth of MMA. I'm bringing my SLR with me so I'll post some pics later tonight.

Does Irvin really have a chance? I mean, I know he's heavier, but Andersen's amazingly fast and is a master at muay tai. Irvin said there's "no way" Anderson beats him with knees and has coaches that're really training him to defend that, but dude, they can't be close to being as fast as Silva. I'm sure it'll be a good fight, but I got a big kick out of Andersen laughing at the possibility of Irvin standing up with him.

Looking forward to tonight!

No one is beating Silva. This guy is the best MMA fighter I have ever seen. He would handily beat any 185 and 205 contenders. I think Forrest Griffin's top challenger is Silva. He has passed every test. He has shown how there is no one even relatively close to him at 185 with his easy wins over Rich Franklin, who dominated that division over the few years prior to Silva's arrival in the UFC. I dont think Griffin would last 3 rounds against this guy.

Silva is a machine, he's like clockwork.

I don't think Griffin stands a chance against Silva either, but who knows.

There's no one better. So explosive. So much power. Amazing when you consider that as Timmy says, he's a "tiny ****" compared to most heavies out there. He's short, pudgy, and only 230. Guys like Rampage and Griffin are bigger.
