we were fine because we still had a capable shot from the point. Right now we don't have that unless Hammer decided to party play like he did 7 years ago.

We have guys with good shots.
As good as Streits? probably not, but with passing from Markov, anyone can one timer it on net.

Carbo won't break up the best PP in the league.
A.Kost Pleks Kovalev will stay of sure.

If no Sundin then Carbo will just add Tanguay to the Koivu line and thats it.

S. Kost might become a point man, maybe.

This is what I think.

Yes, about 3 more goals...

Markov got his goals from being streaky (creeping up on the goalie while kovalev deeked a player ).

I think we can switch markov onto the right side (for the one timers) of our pp and set him up. His shot is not the hardest but he has a mix of precision and strenght. At the all star game he was the only defencemen to hit all the targets.

A.Kost-Koivu-Kovalev
S.Kost-Markov

Thats my opinion, but im pretty sure we will still be able to have a top 5 pp this year.

I hope Markov stops shooting from the point.... he sucks on the big slapper.

nope. His slapshot sucks. He was a little better this year, but on the Souray year his shot % was 4.7%.

If there was a statistic that removed shots from the slot and only counted slappers, he'd be at 2%. He's great for those sneak-in goals, or quick wristers in the slot. But from the point, he doesn't do much when he shoots. he picks the wrong moments to take them, and he isn't very good at it.

That doesn't really take away from everything else he can do though.

If lats would actually stay in front of the net I like this set-up. If not, I'd even put BGL on the second unit to stand in front. Since our power play shifted from Souray's slapshot from the point to Kovalev/koivu's work off the halfboards I don't think it matters who slides in to Streits spot. Just someone that can continue the perimeter movement and has speed to backcheck.

Hopefully higgins and tanguay can convert on the back-door passes more efficiently than last year because as great as the pp was, it could have been much better with finishing...

A. Kostitsyn - Plekanec - Kovalev
Markov - Tanguay/S. Kostitsyn

Tanguay/S. Kostitsyn - Koivu - Latendresse
Hamrlik - ??

But I think they'll break A.Kost - Plekanec - Kovalev has the 1st 5v5 line. A.Kost has to play on the right wing!!!

It is pretty pathetic that we don't have a single righthanded shot for the back door.

Gorges has good speed and good vision and is great on the first pass so already our breakout is improved. Theres is nother worse then being pinned and not being able to breakout on the PP.

I'd start him off on the 2nd unit, see how he does and if the point isnt working well on the first unit move him up. I think he can do the job well.

Streit's shot % was 7.9
Markov's was 11.0
Markov had 3 more goals

edit: how do you have two quotes in one post so I dont ahve to double post?

No doubt that one day (if we keep him) Subban will have his shot at the power play.

Brisebois......when he shoots he has an awesome shot.

Do you guys remember before he left mtl he was markov's partner on the powerplay and they were pretty good together.

I'd start the year off with this and see how it goes.

1st Unit
Tang----Plek
-----------------------------Kovalev
Markov-----Hammer/Gorges

We got the Markov-Kovalev magic. Kovalev, like last year can switch over to the left side if its not working. If its Gorges Markov can switch over the right side and unleash one timer. But I think Hammer can get good hard low slappers on the net. The majority of our goals werent one timers from Streit so Hammer wont have to do it all. Then we have two of our other most skill guys working magic down low.

2nd Unit
Higgins----Saku
-------------------------------A.kost
S.Kost--------Gorges/Hammer

Instead of Markov/Kovalev magic, we have the two brothers controlling this unit. We have Gorges (or Hammer) at the other point Gorges can help with the breakout and can set up S.Kost for one timers. But again most of the goals will come from the bros. Then we have Saku and Higgins down low, sure to result in a few goals

And a lot of people here seem to forget that Brisebois was important during the playoff series against Boston in 2008.

It's infinitely disappointing. Basically the only reason, at this point, why I'm still holding out hope for Lurch.

It'll be interesting to see what some of the youngsters will be willing to pull out of their arse this year though. Andrei K. is going to be teeming with swagger and confidence, I reckon he'll be at the point where he'll move in a few strides, fake a shot and then blind backpass it to Kovalev who will one-time it to a speeding Markov, backdoor, for an empty net.

Then there's Sergei who I reckon will come off the left point, fake a shot/pass to the corner before toe-dragging around the sliding defender where he unleashes a sick cross-ice pass down low to Plekanec who will centre it to Higgins who redirects it between his legs right back to a pinching Sergei who will go roof daddy, once again into an open net.

our powerplay's definitely gonna suffer this year...Boston exposed us in the playoffs...now we have no shot from the point anymore, Markov can't/won't shoot, Tanguay can't shoot, S.Kost can't/won't shoot, it's too much to ask Hamrlik to be a catalyst on the point and still maintain his defensive game, Georges is a n00b and can't score to save his life, Obyrne is a n00b as well, Breezeby blows and should retire, Komisarek's offensive game is non-existent, Subban, Tank, Carl, Belle, Emilin, Mcdo are too young and won't make the team...basically we're screwed!

The powerplay is overrated anyways, the refs put away the whistle come spring, hopefully this will make our players better on ES, which will benefit the team in the long run...

Disagree on almost everything. Markov can shoot, Hammer wont have to maintain his defensive game on the PP, Georges isnt a "n00b" he is improving his entire game quickly and imo could learn to be effective on the point.

We arent screwed and the refs didnt put away their whistle s

I don't see that happening really..
Tanguay-Koivu-Kovalev all like to carry the puck.
I also think Latendresse will have a role to fill on PP.

I wouldn't be surprised if A.Kost replaced Streit from the point. He has a bullet.
I can see a Plekanec-Higgins-Kovalev-Markov-Gorges
and Koivu-Tanguay-Latendresse-Hamrlik-A.Kost.

If not then I expect the same combinations as but with Gorges and S.Kost filling in the points.

This post is wrong on almost every level. This epic fail starts on "our" and doesn't end untill "..." Almost every point you've made is factually incorrect.
