Free Agency always looks better from a distance. 90% of those players will probably be signed by July 1.

from what I can see the kings should be after they get Boyle, Johnson and Kopitar signed.

I know the ducks are losing almost 25 million in salary and will still have most of the core locked up sans Niedermayer and Pahlsson.

Bouwmeester, Gaborik and Zetterberg will be very rich men.
same with the Flames... they will have about 16 million coming off the books... assuming none of those guys are moved ahead of time

Yeah, but it looks as if they'll ice a very young team that year. They'll have guys like Beleskey, Miller, Writanen, Salcido, (maybe) Mitera, Mikkelson possibly in the lineup, which should save money. They should be able to sign one maybe two high end guys, depending on if and for how much Pahlsson and Beauchemin re-sign.

With a core of Getzlaf, Perry, Ryan, Pronger, Giguere...I'm really not too worried.

Hossa will be on the market - he'll try to get a cheap Cup (if there is such a thing) this year and then sign for huge bucks on a non-contender.

It seems like everyone knows what Hossa is doing. But no one had him going to detroit. I dont know what he is going to do, so i have no say.

I'll make an early prediction: Komisarek comes home to the Island. The kid's got roots there and flocks back ASAP at the end of each season. Most recently spotted at IceWorks, the Islanders training facility, watching the Islanders' prospect camp.
i know that he's an island boy, but he's always been a Canadiens fan and loves the city. I know you Islanders fans are drooling at the idea of having him, but i wont happen next year

I think Erik Cole and Mike Cammaleri will re-sign. Lowe got Cole for a reason and I think he will sign at the same time Sutter got Cammaleri for a reason and I think he will sign to.

Umm..and how does that stop him from reaching UFA? Ever heard of Marian Hos or Brian Campbell?

Looks like a Jessica Simpson year that will end up looking like Marge Simpson come Jul 1/09.

Also I left Niedermayer off because he's only a free agent in name, he's probably retiring and if he doesn't retire he's not leaving the Ducks.

This year was suppose to be amazing, but alot of the players re-signed. Probably a large portion of those players will as well.

2008 would have been way better but all the big guys either signed way before hand, or there are the cases like Jagr, Sundin, and Sakic, where we don't really know what their deal is in terms of NHL.

Imagine of Thornton, Iginla, Marleau, Regehr, Kipprusoff, Visnovsky, Boyle etc all hit the open market.

Course, that isn't stopping Vancouver and Montreal this year.
Most of the core is locked up so yeah they are in pretty good position i'd say.

As the original poster said a few of those players will not reach the open market.

Still the Marian Gaborik sweepstakes should be interesting to watch. I doubt very much he would re-sign with Minnesota, maybe a team like Anaheim or San Jose that needs scoring could sign him.

Ducks prospects are usually underrated anyways.

Mitera and Salcido will both be fixtures on our blueline by then we should have enough money to sign a good forward and dman.

NYR have $40M+ committed to 9 players. Pittsburgh has $41M+ on 11 players with Staal as an RFA. There are reasons to believe that the cap may not rise much next year. How do they fit in a guy like Gaborik who would likely command $8M+.

Cole will be back in Carolina at a cap friendly contract, 3.5-5 million.
