Another crazy injury that i've never seen the likes of before or since, he atually killed the nerves in his shoulder, how does that happen??

maybe blackburn was rushed into the NHL. imagine if he stayed in juniors and played one year in the AHL. maybe he would have not gotten hurt.

When we got him I did expect atleast ONE 20 goal season, esp playing with a guy like Jags. Marcel does have talent, he has really nice hands too........he just seemed lost in offensive situations at times. I loved his size too.

Blackburn and Cherneski I didn't list because they failed to make it due to injuries rather than just not being good enough to cut it.

You know I hate it when people blame Slats and the Rangers for RUSHING Blackburn. That kid came in and won his spot during a time when we didn't have good goaltending. His injury was a freak weight lifting accident. I am all for bashing Slats but not for this move.

actually while he did make it to the NHL, always thought Cloutier would be better than what he was- kloucek is a great call, i think that would top the list (he was never the same after knee surgery)

And the thing was we needed Kloucek to replace Beuk at that time. Everything was looking okay until that injury.

I can't believe I forgot Marcus Jonasén! I was a huge fan of his! He was my favourite prospect at the time. He never came close to an NHL job. He has trouble with the SEL these days...

To add, Bluenote...

Klou sounded a lot like Beuk; was a perfect replacement.

He helped complete the 'Huge Specimen' trifecta:

USA version : Hugh Jessiman 6'6 230
Swedish version : Marcus Jonasen 6'4 220
Russian version : Evgeny Gusakov 6'6 210

Zdenek Bahensky looks to be a bust as well. I watched him lots when he was in Saskatoon (WHL), and i thought he looked very good alongside Devin Setoguchi and i had high hopes. Unfortunately he is never going to be a Ranger.

Fave who didn't make it.

Well the names could go forever but,

I am going to discount injury and anyone who had a stint with another club.

That discounts

Blackburn,Inj
Cherneski,Inj
Balej,Mtl
Brendl,Phi
Lundmark,Phx
Kloucek,Atl

Which leaves Christian Dube and Jarko Immonen, but to be totally honest,

Ken Gernander - Had a cup of coffee in NYC but never stuck. Played the wolfpack his entire career and then coached there. Would have been nice to have him here.

Chris was never that great, but I am still at a loss as to why Peter Ferraro could never be turned into a good NHL player?

"Broadway" Joe Balej and Lee Falardeau.

Falardeau had a very strong season in 05-06 for the Wolf Pack, then seemingly disappeared in 06-07. And I still don't think Balej should have been traded for Fedor Fedorov.

Seriously, I have no idea what happened to that guy. He came into the NHL and dominated at times......pulled saves out of his ass. I assume it's just mental cause you can't go from being that good to that bad before you hit 30. He didn't just have one fluke season either..........just strange.

I agree, besides his hair I really liked Balej's game............didn't he have some kind of career ending injury?

Bahensky was one of those guys I was hoping to make it as a longshot. I also liked those Psurny kids we had...........what happened to them?

Wow, this thread made me remember why I started to hate Peter Forsberg. I thought Sundstrom would be better than him and I got jealous when he won rookie of the year. I can't believe I thought this when I was 6-7 years old! Wow. I think it was my dad who told me that.

so what did really happen to Kloucek anyway? Coming from a fishy fan this guy wrecked people at such an early age. tough tough tough, could skate and was big. Definately scratching my head as to why he never developed... Injuries? lack of confidence? substance abuse? what was it?........have a great rest of the summer and as always dont take the Isles lightly in 08-09 ....one never knows....lol

If I remember, he had a knee injury and was never really the same player. He spent a couple seasons riding pine in Nashville and Atlanta, and now he's with Zlin in the Czech Extraliga.

Kloucek played the game like a wrecking ball. He was almost wreckless to a point. Not surprisingly, injuries were the main factor in derailing his career. I loved watching him destroy people though.
