I'm a born and raised Nordique. My dislike of the Montreal Canadiens runs deep in my veins. Montreal antics and favor from refs...it's hard to put into words how I hated the Canadiens, maybe somewhat like how the evil character in a Marvel comic book must feel.
I remember the excitement and the joy of seeing a young group of talent emerging into a solid respected hockey club in my Quebec Nordiques. The talents of Nolan, Ricci, Sundin...
I always knew that we had got hosed in the Sundin trade. Looking at the impact he brought to TO proves it. Never knew or saw the impact of a Beliveau, but to a certain extend - from what I know - Sundin could be set as being a European Beliveau.
Sundin aside - i.e. signing him or not - I must entrust my change of hart to two individuals that clearly know what hockey is all meant to be and how hockey should be managed.
To BoB and Timmins, I say thank you. Thank you for making me find that sweet spot that I once had while I was so passionate of my Quebec Nordiques.
Today, now identifying myself to a Montreal roster that is full of promise as rekindle my love for a game that unfortunately loses luster every season because of mismanagement at a league level - add a few unworthy GM's and owners to the mix to sustain visceral mismanagement.
Even so, even if a part of me will always cherish the Quebec Nordiques, I must acknowledge the pride I have in cheering for a fantastic team as are my Montreal Canadiens.
Go Habs Go. Let's show the world how hockey is managed, played and consumed!
Traitor, yeah, some of my best friends are still either in hockey limbo - meaning that they have no favs for a team - or are still in the past. They overtly trash me for going with le bleu-blanc-rouge. In which case, I must admit that our 3rd away jersey helped a bit in my newly dedication to being a Habs fan.
As for being a "convert", I dunno, that just sounds...sex change....surely not going there
What did help my "transformation" is my 2 year old son whose interest in the game is surprising...so both of my boys will be brought up as Habs.
