Eklund rumor warning: Murray to E- Town?

Glen's production has fallen off, but once bought out he will be a UFA...And at least five or six teams will be very hot on this guy. The two favorites are San Jose and Edmonton.

The Oilers tried, and some would say almost succeeded, in making a deal that would have sent Glen Murray to Edmonton two drafts ago in Columbus. "The deal fell apart at the VERY last second. the Oilers and Lowe were then (and remain still) very into Murray and the idea of making him an Oiler."

I wouldn't mind him on a cheap deal. Part of me wants to see the kids get a shot but at the same time, if he signed for a cheap 1 year deal I wouldn't object to it. He can still score 20+ goals.

If we signed him, that would be the first time this whole off-season that I'd think that Schremp may not make the team.

If we sign him, it better be cheap and short term.

i wouldn't like this deal.

sure it adds veteran leadership and a proven goal-scorer, but who knows what Murray would do in the West now that he is older. I think the physical game would take its toll on him.

Also, it would impede the progression of our younger players.

There are just too many negatives and not enough upside to this deal.

I dont mind signing him to a 1 year deal, but it better not be more then 2 mill.

Cole-------Horcoff-----Hemsky
Nilsson-----Gagner-----Cogliano
Penner-----Brodziak----Murray
Moreau-----Poliout-----Pisani

The offence looks very solid. I dont know who will be our 4th line centremen, though.

I don't think there is space for him, but who knows. Murray is a big and tough one shot scorer, still capable of getting 20 goals. If it's a one yeardeal at or below 2M, he might be worth the risk. At the very worst, Oilers dump him atthe trade deadline for picks. Definitely a better option than Bertuzzi.

Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky
Cole-Gagner-Cogliano
Nilsson-Pouliot-Murray
Moreau-Brodziak-Pisani

That's just insane scoring depth.

No.

We have 7 top-six forwards, all of whom are better then Glen Murray at this stage, already.

In other words, he has absolutely no new information and is going on stuff we all know is two years old.

He just writes it up, refreshes it, condenses any and all rumours and ppl flock.

I don't get it.

highly doubt they waste the time and money on this dude. eklund is just throwing crap at the wall again based on OLD, OLD, OLD news for rumor play. Cole and Penner are enough at power forward spots. Murray is toast. let him rot somewhere else while the Oilers continue to grow. they need those spots for younger players.

Isn't it almost a guarantee that when Ek starts a rumour that it WON'T end up being true?

He sure knows how to get hits to his site, I'll give him that.

I hate to say this but he would be a nice addition for the Flames. Right now they list Bertuzzi as a 2nd line winger with Rene Bourque as their other second line winger.

If Murray signed for a million +/- (he is getting paid 1.3 by the Bruins next year anyways) then Bertuzzi and Murray on the second line is a cheap but vast improvement over what they have currently.

Murray played for Keenan in Boston as well which may work for them as well...or send him screaming for the hills at the very thought of playing for him again.

Too bad for Sutter he is already over the cap.

I could live with signing him if he comes cheap, say, 1.5m. But I think he'll get atleast 2.5m from some other team.

he still would have had 20 goals had he not been injured in his 'dismal season'.

This is exactly what someone with no clue what they are talking about would say, simply by guessing based on past interest in him.

Nothing to see here, move along.

BBO, Do you really have a Shremp fetish? I'll be surprised if he makes this team EVER when a guy says (no more screwing around I want to play in the NHL) after 3 years of being some highly rated draft choice.

Forget it he will not make it anywhere.

Believe me or don't, but I have a little story about this. I am in the military, and we had MacT at my unit as a guest just before the draft in Cbus...great guy by the way. He spent all day with us and later was the guest speaker at a function for us.

When he came through my section at work, he spent some time shooting the breeze with us asking about what we do, looking at the hardware we were working on, etc. He signed a bunch of stuff for us, and as he was getting ready to leave, I had asked him if he could spill the beans about who they were targeting with their 3 first rounders. He steered clear of that one, but he did say that there was something in the works for Murray and that he would look great on a line with Hemmer...someone to bury the biscuit for him.

The OP's post coroborates this. Dunno what happened, but obviously the deal fell through.

Murray is a rapidly declining asset who's had 4 consecutive years of declining offensive production, and had a downright putrid finish to last season.

From March 1:

19-3-2-5, -6, 5.7% shooting.

He was even worse in the playoffs, going pointless for the entire series and with only 10 shots on goal.

Even if the Oilers could squeeze 20 goals out of him, would they really come out on the positive side of the ledger? He's a power forward who isn't all that abrasive to play against, and he'll turn 36 in November. Not to even mention he's been an injury magnet since the end of the lockout.

I say forget it. Let him run out the string of his career somewhere else.
