La-car

To LA: F. Kabarle 2yrs/2.2 million cap hit

to CAR: Armstrong 1 yr/1.5 million cap hit

i am not certain how much carolina values Kabarle. I also don't know if Ruutu can be converted to wing because they have 4 centers that can actually play a top 6 role. Armstrong is an energy guy that works down low and can keep the puck in the offensive zone to tire out the opposition's defense. the kings are filled with centers and are trying to also give Boyle a shot at a job. we got: Kopitar, Stoll, Handzus, Richardson as our main centerman without armstrong.

kings need an experienced dman that can log in a good amount of ice time without giving up an asset. Carolina also gets rid of Kabarle's extra year and can chip in to get a talented player through free agency next season with the extra 2.2 million that is freed up.

I was never the best at proposals, i just want to see what people think from both sides. i hope i'm not undervaluing kabarle or overvaluing Armstrong.

Not exactly the salary dump Carolina would be looking for, I don't think.

Not bad. But from an LA standpoint, I still prefer Schneider, even Kubina, and I don't think it would take much more to get them either.

Haven't really seen DA play much lately. His stats look ok so I'm not sure what he did to earn the LA hate. But the fact of the matter is, the Canes can't take on another forward. Here's our forward core:

Samsonov - Staal - Ruutu
Eaves - Brind'Amour - Williams
Whitney - Cullen - Walker
Bayda - Sutter - Larose
Brookbank

As you can see, there are a couple new additions that we'll have to see if it pans out or not, but we really don't have space for anyone else. Plus, we need to dump FULL salary meaning that we don't want any back in return. Just picks or prospects.

Most L.A. fans don't have DA hate.

He was thrust in to a top 6 role which he isn't suited for. He will be better off this season playing where he belongs.

As much as I'll be happy to see Army go, he's one of the few vet leaders we have on the team. Kabarle is the perfect fit for LA right now as a bridge dmen for the next 2 years while waiting for the young guys to develop. A 4th & a mid level prospect would be a fair exchange, the Kings help the Canes dump salary and get a pick & a prospect for a 35 year old dman with a two year contract.

This (my edited version) is exactly why I don't see him going anywhere. The fact that he's a pretty decent utility forward is also a factor.

Proposal isn't too bad...and I wouldn't have too big of a problem with it...

Sure we get rid of a character guy in th elocker room...but we do get help on our former black hole that some called a defense...

Carolina doesn't do this. It has nothing to do with Armstrong as a player, it just doesn't dump salary and that's what we need. Seriously, give us a pick or a prospect and he's all yours. A roster play in return isn't what we want.

It makes me laugh how many Kings fans are absolutely blind about Derek Armstrong. Too many have their heads up everyone else's ass to see what Armstrong does.

Just like another poster said, the problem with Army is that he was playing the #2 center position. He will never be a top 6 guy. He doesnt put up the points, and its just not his role.

As the #3 center or even #4, he's someone that can thrive.

We'll be the first team in the history of the NHL to have a fourth line center as our captain.

Not even close. Your hatred for him is totally unwarranted.

so you think it takes a guy with tons of skill to be captain? he has leadership skills, THAT is what gives players the C....not point totals or how well they play.

That'd be a good way to ensure that the Kings don't go anywhere, either.

Yeah because everyteam's best player is their captain right? Last time I checked, a team's captain needs to be the guy that is respected by all of his teammates and the refs. Doesn't matter what his skill level is.

Sorry but Army is on his way out and I am sick and tired of changing our captain. If you watched a single game last year you would know that our Captain and every assistant is gone. I want stability NOT who's next. If the team is going with youth than the leadership should follow.

i know you didn't post this against me, but with this proposal, i wasn't implying that i hate army. I wouldn't give him the captaincy because most likely, he'll be out next year. i only proposed this trade because we have 6 centermen that practically only play at center, and we need an experienced dman that can log in some ice time so Greene won't be overworked just yet. i'd definately see the kings giving him the A, I hope Brown gets the C, he was always at the rink during development camp and he was also at the press conference when Terry Murray was introduced. I'm pretty sure he can handle carrying the team, he's surely proven that he is not afraid of anything or anyone.
