Pick the 8 Teams who will make the P/O's in the West

Did this last year and the results were interesting. Not too many West surprises from the Board vote; the Final Results for last year which are tabularized below:

Rank Team Votes % Of Votes For Final Standings '07-'08
1Detroit 330 96.77% Detroit
2Anaheim 329 96.48% San Jose
3Vancouver 311 91.20% Minnesota
4San Jose 323 94.72% Anaheim
5Colorado 311 91.20% Dallas
6Calgary 274 80.35% Colodaro
7Minnesota 249 73.02% Calgary
8Dallas 247 72.43% Nashville

9Nashville 95 27.86% Edmonton
10St Louis 66 19.35% Chicago
11Los Angeles 59 17.30% Vancouver
12Edmonton 36 10.56% Phoenix
13Chicago 22 6.45% Columbus
14Columbus 11 3.23% St Louis
15Phoenix 6 1.76% Los Angeles

Its self explanatory: Pick the EIGHT teams that will make the Playoffs out of the West (Not ONE team - PICK EIGHT TEAMS).

woah! Dallas was voted 8th last season! and LA not in the bottom?

my picks were basically the 8 teams that played this season for the exception of Chicago...
I actually messed up a little bit and voted Nashville instead of Colorado

I went with (in no particular order)

detroit - no question, once again favorites for president's.
anaheim - still too many good players to fall too far down the table. i don't think they'll be as strong as the cup team or the team of last year.
columbus - it's gotta happen eventually!
phoenix - i think they'll be this years darkhorse. then again, they've carried that label for a few years now and never lived up to it
vancouver - i think many people underestimate the canucks because of a bad year last year
dallas - another year for the stars that could be dubbed as "their year" to win it all.
chicago - if they don't make it, they'll at least be fighting for the 8th spot. i'm confident they'll squeak in tho due to a weakened minnesota, nashville and colorado.
san jose - should be every bit as good as they've been in the past few years.

Edmonton 14th? That was just a little surprising. I think they'll be 7-9.

Have you seen the Ducks offense lately? Their second line is comprised of Ryan Carter, Brendan Morrison and Bobby Ryan. They'll be lucky to make the playoffs, it's laughable to even consider them for the first seed especially with a little team called the Detroit Red Wings in the conference.

Gets tougher after that. I don't like Colorado's goaltending and their center depth seems a little shaky. The D looks great on paper, though. Minnesota is going to have to win a lot of 1-0 games if they are going to make it. Nashville is dreadful on the wings. Forward depth could be an issue for Chicago, and that two-headed goalie situation could turn ugly. St. Louis could be a darkhorse. People forget about the quality veterens they have mixed in with the youth. They might be too thin down the midde, though. I like Columbus' mix, on paper. They have good forwards, very good defenseman, and an excellent goaltender. That's on paper, though. Chemistry could be a huge issue. Like Columbus, I think Edmonton and Phoenix could end up pretty solid, all-around, but in my ignorant little opinion, might mesh a little better. Los Angeles just isn't even trying, despite having some very good players.

So, I guess...

8. PHX

...I'll admit that I probably see Phoenix as deeper than would other fans, simply because I'm more familiar with some names that might seem more obscure to others. This is probably the homer coming out. Perhaps I'm willing to discount some inexperience on my club, but discredit another club for the same flaws.

Predicting 4 (!) teams from the Northwest to finish out of the playoffs is one of the most out-there ideas I've heard in a while.

Ok, looks like one person decided it'd be funny not to vote for Dallas and Detroit, and a second passed on San Jose.

Boy, what a great idea that was!

EDIT: Right, Sens4thecup?

As opposed to the East, I really find the West open. I mean, all 15 teams have a legit chance at the playoffs. Should be a great year!

Detroit, San Jose, and Dallas. Unless something catastrophic happens injury-wise, they WILL make the playoffs no doubt.
