Bouwmeester re-signs with Panthers - 1 YR/4.8M

Is Bouwmeester's signing a hint to a trade to another team and for what or is he to stay in Florida? Flyers still have a chance?

for only a 1 year deal I would think he's out of here before the season is over.

only a one year deal. at least they agreed before arbitration, which can sometimes be a painful process for both sides. Hopefully Florida can show they are over the hump this year and convince JayBo to stay

Interesting to see what the cap hit is.

So... What does Florida want in return for him?

My guess is that Martin is still going to try and work an extension of some sort. Or else ship him for 50 first rounders at the deadline, because he couldn't get a fair return right now, since it's about the worst kept secret in the world that Jay-Bo wants out of FLA.

Florida won't be able to resign JBo, and they know it. There's a reason they went and got Ballard. JBo gets moved before the season starts or at the trade deadline.

Pretty much means he's getting traded at some point in the season, especially if Florida doesnt contend for a playoff spot.

This will make him a UFA next summer. Unless he signs an extension, he's getting traded for sure.

At least that puts the rumors to rest I guess. Now if only Sundin would follow suit.

This will only increase the rumors.

A number like 4.8 is workable for more teams.

He'll be traded before the season starts.

He wants to play for a contender starting now.

I agree. Florida needs to get back some quality current NHL talent. They can't do that at the deadline. It would be a mistake for them to wait and get only prospects and picks who may never pan out.

Aw man....another year of trade proposals.

On a corresponding note...Florida can't let this guy walk away for nothing. Then again, how can you keep selling your product to fans when you keep having to get rid of good players. Panthers fans lived for 3 years waiting for Olli Jokinen to get traded and he finally was, now this is going to be another 2-year saga (this year and last year)

well, i don't exactly think that the worst kept secret is going to become anymore secretive come February.

reaching the deadline in a have-to situation could prove to be really bad.

IF JBo were willing to sign a long term deal with another team that would have made him just as if not more valueable on the trade market now.

I suspect Martin wants to let the stink of the OJ trade clear out a bit before he trades Bo.

The trade proposals will never end...the status quo bores most of the people on this board.

I also think he'll be traded pretty soon. Hopefully Florida can get a decent return for him.

at the expense of a quite possibly diminished return? that would make him more stupid than he already appears to be.

He might be more concerned with saving his job than the health of the team.

Two stinker trades in one off season could raise the fan discontent and media pressure on ownership to unload Marty.

This way, it gives OJ time to fade. Martin can make some overtures about signing JBo to an extension and if he can't get him under contract he can play off a deadline deal as having his hands tied on the matter and salvaging something out of the situation.

No, the Flyers don't have a chance. Not unless they are giving up too much. Whoever gets him will pay a king's ransom and lose him to free agency.

It's a 1 year deal, the cap hit is the same as the salary, 4.8...
