Mark Parrish On Waivers!

If he hits re-entry waivers I say take him! But we wont =(

He's a sure 20+ goals but makes 2.65M$ for next 3 years

Most but not atleast one of my all time favorite Panthers!

That's cheap for a 20 goal scorer! OMG if we pass on Parrish I will throw in the towel on JM. Come on JM, do it!

He rarely plays a full season...actually I don't think he has yet. I'm gunna pass.

That's fine, I'd rather keep A. Stewart or Frolik as callups in case he does. He's a bona fide 20 goal scorer and would immediately become a top threat and take the pressure of Horton. This is a no brainer IMO!

We would be dumb to pass on him...adds grit, something we need more of.

Would love to pick him up! We'd have to move some guys to make room, but I'd be happy to have him back.

the grass always looks greener on the other side but there's a reason he's on waivers. he makes too much and is signed for three more years.

wait till he clears waivers and is bought out, then you can make an offer to him as a free agent. i wouldn't want him with his current contract.

He's played 70+ games 6 times in 10 seasons, including 81/82 twice. He has 660 career NHL games, 208 goals and 372 career points. He's a -37 for his career, but most of it comes from a -27 his first year as an Islander. He won't be a great defensive player, but I think he'd manage.

I think he'd be a good pickup for this team - as would Glen Murray have been. That suggests what will happen...

...nada. "Our roster is set..."

EDIT: Sorry, I misread the stats - he's got 660 games in 9 seasons and has played 70+ in 7 of them. Didn't notice one year was split between NYI and LA. So he's averaged over 73 games per season. Given he plays the front of the net and injuries are to be expected, that's not too shabby, nor is it "injury prone".

Parrish has always been one of my favorite former Panthers and for that price, I would absolutely love for Martin pick him up. If he stays healthy, I believe that would be a steal.

Horton is our legit top-line RW...We are pretty set on RW position...If he plays LW then I say yes to getting him after he's bought out.

100% absolutely correct sir says our General Manager!

Anyway, even I wouldn't pick him up as this team needs a scoring line center, BADLY, not a winger and not that JM thinks he needs either.

Martin said he still wouldn't mind trading one of the team's additional defensemen for some offensive help but said that could wait until later.
just so ya know.

JM can trade our excess d-men for draft picks for all that I care. This kind of pick up sends a message to the organization, its' players and its' fans. Parrish is a solid top 6 guy and he would take the pressure of guys like Olesz (talk about getting hurt every season), Horton, and Booth, who are all still very young and have yet to prove consistency. You can never have too much depth on your D, well, I think you can't have enough depth at scoring either.

I don't know - just remember one of those "extra" defensemen is apparently a guy whose name is also a letter of the alphabet, who could fetch some offensive help...

I am in agreement, and as soon as I saw this I was on. I dont see the log jam someone else spoke of either

Booth-Weiss-Horton
Stillman-Matthias (assuming bc I am not sold here)-Parrish
Olesz-Kreps-Zed
Belak-Campell-Dvo

Pelt/Stewy

Even if Matthias isn't ready for top 6, you either move Kreps up or Stillman has like 15 career games at C, give him a shot there and move Olesz or Zed up and have Stillman center the 2nd line

Parrish would be great for the PP too. He loves to plant himself in front of the net. Something this team lacks

Booth, McLean once in a while...and whom? He didn't mean their own net.

The Panthers have ALWAYS lacked more than a couple of players who would take the punishment in front of the net. When Parrish was picked up from Colorado that was one of his selling points, that he'd go to the net and it would give the team someone other than Ciccarelli who would do that. The team was criticized as a team that played the perimeter as recently as two seasons ago (which is why critics also had this perception that the team was soft). Even now there aren't more than a couple of guys on the team who will take the punishment. They can't all be like that, I know - but it wouldn't hurt to add another.

And with the roster mostly set, even $2.65M over three years wouldn't hamstring the team that badly financially. I believe they're still well under the cap.

The only thing I'd say is that GP is right when he says our main need is a scoring center (one who can win faceoffs) and not another winger. But the team does need another decently skilled offensive winger right now, too - unless they really want Frolik to make the team out of camp.

parrish is a streaky scorer. i believe he's overpaid. i'd like to have him at a lower salary, say 1.5 mill.

I know but Booth, McLean, Zednik, Olesz, Peltonen, Campbell, Weiss does a few games but not that much since he was usually with Booth. Heck I've even seen Bouw infront of the net once or twice.

We are around 7 mil under the cap at about 49 mil in salaries. Plenty of room but will Cohen okay the extra salary??? It shouldn't be a problem if we're trying to dump defensemen, especially Van Ryn and his salary.
