just wondering if anyone else had seen this and what they thought. basically, they don't think the rangers will be doing much offensively up front and that our defense will have to make up for the lack of scoring on the part of our forwards.

They almost lost me when they said Cherepanov might be in the lineup this year..

..then they did lose me when I read this:

Quote:
FORWARDS: Offence will be a huge struggle for the Rangers this season. They ranked 25th in goals per game last season with 2.5, although they picked it up in the latter half of the season when they found some chemistry.
It certainly will be hard to offend the opposing team without Sean Avery.

i think they have one thing right.....the rangers defense is going to be very good offensively and defensively.......

i do think the rangers will score more goals per game than last year...maybe somethig like 2.7(which isnt much more) but it is more as the team will have a single identity and better overall chemistry and team speed

He makes some good points but misses some as well.

They said the Rangers were going to the finals last year on the strength of the mighty jagr shanny led O.

The part about the Rangers key being all about team D and not giving up many shots is right on, but ousting Malik, Backman and Tyutin is not some abandonment of that philospohy as he suggests.

Heres my synopsis for what its worth.

Rangers:

Offense: Who the F knows? The post Jagr era is impossible to call until these guys get some games in. How long Renny plays with the lines before just letting them play etc.

Defense: Renny got JJ to buy in and the team was very sound D wise. They IMPROVED the blueline. They will once again be near the top to the NHL in D

Goaltending: Lundqvist will finally put a full season of Elite goaltending in the books. He will DOMINATE the East

Thats the key, if Henke can play Elite through the whole season, i have no doubt that we can win the atlantic, and Henke will have a very legitimate chance of beating out Martha for the Veinza.

Even more than Brodeur, Henkes success is how he fits the Renny system.

Rangers MUST play the great team D. Its been the key to all the success post lockout. Yea Henrik is the man, but keeping those shots down and of poor quality has been the key.

I dont expect that to change.

Will Gomer and the Nazgul find chemistry? Will Niko live up to his deserved hype? Who else is going to be a Ranger top 6 forward next year? Someone else is coming. Count on it. The O is just too different for anyone to really know

The two shutouts alone helped us not play Montreal in the 1st round.

Thats right. It would have deprived us of watching the Rangers TROUNCE the Devils.......

Agree with those saying the PP should pick up and the offense won't be as bad as everyonbe thinks. Last year we we're going to have no defense, and we ended fourth best in the league. If anything with Jagr gone hopefully we'll be more balanced.

You mean the Montreal team we would've completely owned?

Oh, I hope so. It was terrible to see how many power plays we had without a single goal.

i would personally rather play a Devils team that we beat 7 times already during the season.

And still end up against the Pens in the 2nd round?

What if the seeds had been different, and playing Montreal in the 1st round would've meant a trip to the ECF rather than getting booted in the 2nd round?

Something tells me there'd have been many people singing quite a different tune after the season ended, had we lost to the Pens in the Conference Finals rather than in the 2nd round.

The Rangers were the 2nd best team in the East, IMO. But it didn't appear that way because they got booted a round sooner.
