I guess we'll have to wait and see - Arrggghh!

DIdn't read all the posts so sorry if it was posted already. From the sounds of it(from Pratt) teams are willing to make trades in order to land Sundin. Doesn't need to be a 1 year deal.

He'd probably be a first liner on at least half the teams in the NHL. Hell, I'd rather have Drury centering the Habs 1st line over Pleks or Koivu.

Uhhh pretty sure Sundin to Vancouver is signed, sealed and delivered 100% so I'm not sure why these five other teams are still going through the motions.

It seems pretty doubtful Sundin is going to Vancouver at this point based on Barry's comments to date. He seems to be trying to drive up the price, and clearly the price he's driving up isn't the Canucks offer.

Penner Horcoff Brule/Schremp
Cogliano Gagner Nilson
Stortini Brodziak Moreau

Obviously I think if any forward would be moved it would be Pisiani.

This makes no sense for the Oilers if it is anything more than a 1 year deal since it ties their hands going forward. For a one year deal, Edmonton makes little sense for Sundin.

What more does he want? $10 million a year for two years for someone who is near retirement? That is absurd in itself, and he wants more? I'm getting tired of this whole charade. If Sundin holds his word and makes up his mind on August 1st, then I will be thoroughly surprised. These things usually drag out for a while.

Sundin and Barry never said (I don't think) that it will be decided for certain on August 1st. They said early August was a "soft deadline" for Sundin to decide if he was playing and the media morphed that into "sundin's gonna sign a contract on aug. 1!!!!". I definitely wouldn't expect anything on the 1st.

On another note, what's the status of Sakic and Forsberg?

Not to drive up the price beyond 10 million, it would be to force a different team that he wants to play for to pay more money - closer to what Vancouver is offering.

Are you interested in who the 5 teams are before you state your fact?

He said there's 6 teams interested in Sundin. Not that Sundin is interested in all 6 of them. I still think the 3 Canadian teams are by far the favourite. But there are teams with cap room and holes in offense that probably are throwing offers his way.

Sundin in Colorado only makes sense if he's not looking for a Cup and isn't after the biggest payday he can land. So I'd say the Avs aren't in the running. Even assuming that Sakic comes back, Forsberg finds a solution for his foot and Sundin signs, the Avs would still have a big question in net as to how successful they can be. And obviously, if Sakic doesn't retire and Foppa returns, there's not a whole lot for Sundin. At least not the kind of dollars others are waving at him. I'd love to have him in Colorado, and think it makes a fitting end to his career, but I just don't see it happening.

If Foppa really fixes his foot imagine a line of Sundin Sakic Forsberg.
That would be sick.

We could sign him for 2 years, when he comes off the cap when it's time to sign Gagner and Cogliano. Cole and Garon will both be UFA's next year, the rest of the team is either RFA's or signed through next year.

IF we signed Sundin we would need to package a pick or prospect with Roloson to free up some space.

It would be doable, and it would make the Oilers a contender in the west.

I could certainly see Columbus. While not the best contender of the crowd, they certainly have a better core in place than Toronto did, and like Vancouver should be a lock for the playoffs if they get him.

Barry said it was 3 other AMERICAN teams. Although your right...if Edmonton did get Sundin, they would be my pick in the West.

there are only 2 possible ways Sundin signs with New York

1--Mats signs for League Minimum
2--Drury/Gomez get traded

With that said. Sundin will either be a Canuck or Hab in the long run.

We do have Deslauriers coming in on a one-way deal this year... He has to play at least 30 games in the next 2 seasons for the Oil.

OK then, that makes more sense. I'm assuming Sundin would prefer Toronto or Montreal to offer up some big numbers like that, but I doubt either are in too much of a position to match Vancouver.
