Chill man, it's called Sarcasm.

And since everyone is calling me a homer on this site, I am going to be the complete opposite of one, just to prove them wrong.

God do I ****ing hate Ales Hemsky.

I agree with you Raoul Duke, Erik Cole is a pansie, I can't wait until he gets injured.

Then we're in complete disagreement. I hope for the Oilers sake he lives up to the god-like hype around here.

Well, considering the final make up of the team, I'd say we traded up from Pitkanen to Visnovsky and Stoll/Raffi/Green for Cole.

Not a bad deal. It seems we got good value for Cole if one considers what we gave up.

But LA got hosed big time. Gonna miss KLowe. He always knew how to hose other GM's.

Quit being a dismissive *******.

He's right. You've dismissed anything and everything to do with Cole out of hand without much of an explanation as to why you hate him so much.

Man where do I begin

Gretzky
Messier
Kurri

ok seriously, I'm only 17 so for me, of the guys who played on the team it would be Oates, Nedved (his second time with the team), Isbister, Cross, and Lupul

I thought I made it pretty clear before.

- trading a blue chip defenseman like Joni Pitkanen straight up for him was idiotic.
- People keep knocking down Dustin Penner for Cole, despite almost identical stats and one being much younger and long term here.
- Cole has 1 year here. When he bounces this summer Peca, Pronger style I wonder how much every one will continue loving him.
- He shows no comittment to being an Edmonton Oiler.
- He's overpaid (oh but Penner and Souray are more right?)

I could continue. And what does it matter why I don't care for the guy?

* The most we could have gotten Pitkanen to sign for was one year, and he would have been a UFA.

* Erik Cole's point totals are much better and he's less of a PP specialist. Better even strength and he's a more physical forechecker.

* How so?

* He makes $4 million, which is undervalued in the current market IMO.

Wait...pitkanen isn't a blue chip dman. You can say that he will be, but he hasn't been yet. I mean, with a vast majority overrating his potential, I believe he will never live up to it. Sure, you have talent, but if you don't play with no heart, might as well go home. The key word is he COULD be a blue chip, but he isn't yet, and he might (or in my case probably) not reach it. He had a good rookie season, and hasn't been close to it since.

I agree that people shouldn't knock Penner down, still give him time. But i don't agree that Cole doesn't show any commitment. He sure sounded thrilled to be playing in Edmonton, rather than going oh great. Maybe Cole does have some hype. Maybe a bit too much in some regards. But i'd rather take Cole's hype than Pitkanen's ghostly "potential".

On to the topic, i'd go with #64 himself. Was said to have the talent of Lemieux. Too bad he had the work ethic of a fat man on a couch.

Raoul I'm on the same page as you, word for word. The only thing I can add is although the Penner and Souray signing were disastrous, our only hope is that Cole has a good season and by some fluke decides to resign with us for at least a couple of more seasons, like our Blue Chip Dman did in Carolina.

I think the first bolded part is the real heart of why you seem to hate the guy. If it is just the Penner thing you should hate MacT as apparently he is the one that wants Cole on the 1st line LW. You should also be mad at Lowe and not Cole for trading Pitkanen for him.

The second bolded part. What else do you expect him to do?

He gushes about coming here every time he asked about it (by Edmonton media & Carolina media). Says he can not wait to play with his kids in the snow and stuff like that (pretty above and beyond the usual spiel). He came early to look for a house and went to the Oilers kids hockey camp and hung out and signed autographs. He says he will play where ever needed including his off wing that Oil seemed determined to start him on. He recently said he is very open to signing an extension and he hopes Edmonton would be interested to keep him.

"Cole comes in with 1 year remaining on his contract that will pay him $4 million for this season. That has everybody wondering about a possible extension. "We're coming here with the intention that we wanna stay here and hopefully have a great year and the Oilers organization is gonna want to keep me here," Cole says."

That is no guarantee of anything but you make sound like some evil negative monster that is coming in with a horrible attitude.

Finally who ever claimed him as a god? I have not seen this around here and it sounds like a lot of exaggeration to me.

My choices are in net, Eric Fichaud, and Michael Schtalenkov (excuse the spelling if they are wrong). Personally, after Cujo being here, those two were incredible letdowns in net. They even made Salo look really good.

Cross played well for the Oilers and in the right circumstance could be a key important player.

Mike Stapleton?
Brent Gilchrist?
Peter Ing?
Ty Conklin?
Josh Green?
Donald Dufresne?
Frank Musil?
Michel Petit?
Brian Swanson?
Mike Bishai?
JF Jacques is up there- 53 games, NO points??!
Jani Rita?
Scott Thornton was pretty useless...he's probably in the running for most useless Oilers having played more than 100 games with the team.
Tyler Wright?

Where does all this Cross support come from anyway? What exactly did he do so well that shakes off his public moniker?

The guy was one of the worst players I've seen on the ice in a long time. Probably since Dopita.

I don't want to derail this thread with another Cole/Pitkanen debate. I regret saying Cole even in jest, I have no problem debating this, but not here to have another thread closed due to my beliefs. I said what I think...

In all honesty, I found Scott Ferguson, Pat Falloon (why was he on line one with Smyth and Weight for a long time?), and currently JF Jacques to be the most useless in recent memory. Pouliot is knocking on that door for me too.

Am I the only one who thinks Shayne Corson was the biggest loser to wear an Oilers jersey?

This was a young and impressionable team and if he'd played when blogs, chat boards and instant information was around he'd be as vilified today as Chris Pronger.

As best as my memory serves:
Corson's legacy is summed up in one game in 1995: the team is down 3 goals against Dallas going into the 3rd. They're on the brink of calling it another wasted year when the team digs down and ties the game with seconds to play. They go to OT, keep the tie and I'm thinking "Yes! Great start to an important road trip. Not quite a win but should transfer over. Great confidence boost."

Corson apparently is crying and whining in the locker room after that he should have had an assist on one of the goals. It was Doug Weight and Jason Arnott who told him to shut it and mayhem ensues.

Oh, did I mention? Corson was our CAPTAIN!!!!!!

We were a young team of impressionable kids; it wasn't their job to keep their captain in line.

Why this team even acknowledges that he once wore the 'C' for 25 games is beyond me.

Useless player. Useless human being.
